Are my bose amps analog or fiber optic?
Hi guys,
I am trying to upgrade to an aftermarket to a sony aftermarket stereo. I hooked everything up but my steering wheel control doesn't work and the right speakers are a lot louder than the left side(already checked the balance fader). Crutchfield sold me this harness called SWRBM-57C and said it was compatible and I see 5 reviews the 02' W210 owners giving good reviews on their website. You can see details of this harness adapter here:
https://pdf.crutchfieldonline.com/Im...249SWRBM57.PDF
After messing around with this more than I wanted, I took another look at the Vehicle Applications on that PDF and I don't even see my 2002 E430 listed anywhere. There is also a note on the bottom right of that PDF that says ** Does not retain fiber optic amplifier. I did some research and found that I have the 810 Sound System using my VIN. Does that mean I have fiber optic amplifier? Does anyone know or have used this interface before on a 01 or 02' W210 with bose no nav? I'm kinda outta ideas and will most likely need to either call back crutchfield or take it to an stereo shop. I am not sure if those reviewers had bose package or not on crutchfield. I am going to reset the headunit tomorrow and see if there is any difference but if anyone has any information regarding this, that would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Fiber optics came on 1999 cars meaning it's more difficult to install aftermarket components.
Maybe if there are adapters sold at your local Radioshack you could use an aftermarket component with your fiber optics system.
Cars up to 1998 the audio system was analogue system and you could mix audio components.

Bose up to 98 was analogue and much easier to customize with aftermarket components
99 was more difficult to play with because D2B fiber optics was introduced.
Bose sounds fantastic as long as everything is OK, bad caps in amp or water leaks into the trunk flooding the amp would cause you serious audio distortion and a broken amp

wow, all this time I had no idea the Bose components were digital/fiber. I really thought they were analog via
copper wires....as they exited the head unit via the muil-ganged plugs on rear of the unit. the only fiber
compliant components I was aware of was the head-unit-to-CD-changer and mobile phone.

...still, as I examine the sound system, the head unit to amp is analog (copper) the amp to speakers is analog (copper).
only the CD and phone are based on D2B fiber optic in the 1999-2002 w210s. Happy to be proven wrong though
