New to board with questions

Hey all new to this board and am the new owner of a 97 E420 fully loaded with 6800 miles and had a few questions. How good are these cars in snow with the added traction control and can some one recomend a good snow tire to help with traction?

Welcome GK55! I live in SoCal so I can't help you out. No snow to speak of here. However, I'm sure someone here can help you out. You'll find this to be a very useful resource for anything MB E class related questions....

Mercedes has traction control, which help somewhat in snow. However, to use your car in snow, you need to do research into snow tire. Car itself have not much difference in snow handling, except for 4 wheels drive. It's tire that will decide how your car run in snow.

Check out the all-season tires at www.tirerack.com for more info. Car forum won't help much.

Wow that's some low miles. Sounds like a good find. Welcome...

The traction control will help you from sliding around. If you want better performance in snow then you would need a 4matic.

WOw, 6800 miles is amazingly low for a 97, what did you pay for that?

I paid 23.5K which is not bad seeing the car is brand new.

You're not kidding! I thought for sure you meant 68K. Great find. Can't say from personal experience being in So. Cal., but I have heard very good things about the Blizzaks. I would avoid chains under any conditions. If it's that bad, time to break out the 4X4.

My father has had both the rear wheel drive with out traction control and now the 4matic and made it through the snow, but it has been a good 10 years since I drove a rear wheel drive daily(BMW) and I want to know what advancements have been made and what to do to make it perform the best it can in snow ( I am too old to push the car up the driveway when it gets stuck in snow lol).
