the w220 wheels should be examined closely but I believe they have 14 radius ball seat whereas the standard 12mm lug bolts you have are spec'd with 12 radius ball seat. While the w220 wheels may bolt on using the smaller ball set lug within the larger 220 ball seat wheel may result in insufficient bearing surface contact. example...

some owners opt for hybrid/custom lug bolt design e.g.

proceed carefully and measure the cross section of your 220 wheels (bottom of ball seat...through wheel...to hub surface. your hybrid bolt should be that measurement plus another .5-.75" to ensure sufficient threading enters into the hub. caveat!...too long a bolt and it will extend through the hub and may impact the parking brake in the rear and lock up rotational travel

--------------Excellent reply-------------

This exactly seems to be the problem with my wheels vibration.

I have been trying to trouble shoot for many months now and after having spent hundreds of dollars, it looks like it has come down to the wrong size Lug bolts

The previous owner installed W212 E63s wheels on a W210 E55 with M12 x 1.5 lugs ( wrong size)

E63s -----M14 x 1.5
E55 ------M12 x 1.5

Finally after many many days of google research, I have come to this conclusion, the car had wrong lug bolts installed and no wonder I had multiple bolts broke, wonder why?
Inappropriate size bolts would put extra stress on the lug bolts especially when they are not seating correctly and the right amount of torque can't be applied.

I am in the process of ordering R14----M12 x 1.5 so called Hybrid lugs ( R14 to sit flushed in the E63s wheels lug holes and M12 x 1.5 for the right thread size for E55 hub )

Where can one order these hybrid lug bolts besides "Otis INC"

Not likely to find them through another vendor unless OTIS is reselling through multiple sites. Did you guys contact OTIS and come up empty?

The original R14 bolts have very little play in E63s wheels that are designed for R14 lugs

The Hybrid R14 I got from Otis, has too much play just like the R12 lugs have in E63s wheels

Called and confirmed with Otis who said the lugs are confirmed R14 seat so not sure why I have so much play?

Confused

do they have too much play after they are torqued down ? Mine stuck out 2mm farther in than then original . Not sure if that is the case for you . In the back it may be okay but I would be carefully with your parking brake assembly . And they could possibly bottom out in the front from the length . I need to grind mine down and run a die trough them

You've got to realize that while the ball seat is 14R and the Otis ball is 14R you've still lost 1mm of space off each side of the bolt as it is still a 12mm dia bolt inside a 14mm hole
