The picture shows the car with both the hood star and the grill star. I assume most people replace the hood star with the flat emblem if they were going to buy the grill. But I like the hood star (I use it to line up the right-side lane markers for steadier drunk driving )

With a grill emblem, you definitely need a flat hood emblem.
The following are my combination preferences.
1 Factory 'whatever' that came on the car you have, leave it alone.
2 Flat hood emblem instead of the tall one
3 Grill emblem instead of the tall one

yeah that is definitely an overkill, too much badging actually. It cheapens the classy look.

I have the flat emblem on my hood because my mom accidently broke mine on the garage door when closed so I am getting that grill I think it gives it clean new MERCEDES BENZ look similar to the new benz.

Before everyone gets too excited, that is a photoshop...here's the original pic:
Funny how this topic gets revived every now and then. Here's an earlier one...the responses were much the same but I do like the idea of using the hood ornament as a pimp fashion accessory

I thought of snapping mine off and using it as a keychain, bottle-opener, belt buckle, nose ring, branding iron-kind of thing, you know, sort of a swiss army
hood ornament just so I could replace it with the snazzy 'updated' flat one, but then I realized how often I use it to aim at the hookers on century blvd when I splash them with gutter water.
I'll bet Karl (Benz) and Gottlieb (Daimler) never would have thought of so many useful applications for a seemingly simple, yet elegant, hood ornament.
I think I'll go kiss mine good-night.
