Many thanks Mackhack i have one extra question: since I'm removing the Radio 50 APS that has the built in navigation discuss reader in the head unit I need to purchase the external navigation unit correct? My concern is that there are no MB maps for South America so maybe just exchange the head unit to get the larger display and loose the navigation?

You can't just swap an Audio 50 (Radio 50 APS doesn't exist by the way) with a NTG1 COMAND APS. Audio 50 has a built in audio gateway and COMAND APS does not. You need a AGW, new fiber optic cables and other cable harnesses. No 5 minute job at all.

Thanks Noud yes here in Colombia Mercedes didn't release navigation DVDs so I'm doing this to have a bigger screen and the DVD player feature. It should be plug and play correct? Do you know if these command units had Bluetooth built in for my phone? Thank you all.

Mackhack Thanks for the clarification. It seems a complex job and at the end I will only get a larger screen with no navigation. What is your opinion about the aftermarket units with everything built in? I think I will lose the HK amplifier if I take that route. .. Thanks again!

DIY: 2005 W211 Mercedes-Benz E-Class OEM Navigation Retrofit

I’ve been a member on this forum for a while and have benefited from all the resources shared by fellow members. Now that I have completed retrofitting a navigation system to a 2005 W211, I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to contribute back to the forum. So I took some pictures […]

Looks like you took a bunch of pictures from other forum members and posted/used them in your blog.

There are a few cables you can reconnect under the b-pillar that make the factor fiber cables work correctly. I just did it and it worked fine.

Thanks for the help and advice everyone.

Sorry, I thought I was replying to a much earlier message and it looked like this thread ended in 2008 with no real conclusion.

Didn't realize there were a lot more messages in this thread, guess it took longer for them to load!

Merci

Mercedes W211
Hello,

I need help with OEM Navigation retrofit to my W211. I'm from Europe, my car is 2002 Mercedes W211, originally it came with Audio 20 Cassette radio, 6 Disc CD Changer, Single Tuner AGW, and Navi bracket with correct left panel. My car doesn't have Bluetooth, no Phone, no Tele Aid, no Harman/Kardon audio system. I retrofited Comand NTG1 headunit, it was simple plug and play installation and it's working perfectly, now I want Navigation, so I bought Dual Tuner AGW, Navi DVD drive with DVD map disc and aftermarket Fakra GPS Antenna, now I just need MOST bus extention cable and Power wire for Navi drive, right? Power wire needs to be connected to rear SAM and then to Navi drive, and Fibre Optics from AGW to Navi drive with mentioned MOST bus extention cable, is that all or do I need something else? My car doesn't have Tele Aid system nor Telephone so I don't need Antenne Splitter, right? I will connect Aftermarket GPS Antenna directly to Navi drive. Thank you!

Best regards,
Luka

Hi, yes you need an additional fiber optic - part number A2115403132 and 180 degree coupler A0005454484. If you don't have navigation wiring in the car, then you also need A2115409109(98) and that's all that you need. Regarding the GPS antenna, you can just connect your factory roof antenna directly to the nav drive.
