....I didn't need the MOST loop cable that is stated in this thread (MOST fiber adapter A211 540 68 33). My '03 had in preinstalled. The most difficult part is locating the fiber cables behind the B-pillar driver side. You need the MOST cable diagram indicating how to insert the NAV processor into the fiber loop...

(basically i need to know how to connect 13 & 14 along with xx16 & 20 as shown in the diagram)

You just answered it...in other words pull out 14or20 (whatever goes into the AGW) , plug it into the navi drive and connect the drive to the AGW....with the EXTRA fiberoptic cable.
Get the shortest one about $12.
good luck!

i think what i need is what he's talking about... finding where XX16 is and plugging that in. am i making sense to anyone?[/QUOTE]
I did a few cars around here ..in Canada .They were all prewired except the optical cable with the "open" connection. I never found that plug under the B pillar. So just opened the loop before the AGW.
I think as long as it is a closed loop with the same order of units it should not make a difference .

and this is kind of an embarassing question... where exactly is the "B-Pillar" on these cars? maybe i can start tearing panels off and looking for the infamous "open connection."
Has anyone had any luck using the optical harness that was in the car, or has everyone else made their own loop?

thats funny... did they have any sort of optical connector at all?

Don't feel bad.I took the panel off under the driver side rear door...along with the panel for the infamous B-pillar..(between rear seat and trunk...i think thats where it is) .. as the pictured instruction showed.Didn't find anything ever..Then i started to question the whole thing. If the fiberoptic only works if it is looped, how could it be an "open" plug anywhere???
But again, some people claim to "just plugged it in" so what do i know..

ok... these guys hit the nail on the head
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...gation+install
the b-pillar is actually right between the front and rear drivers side door (where i thought b pillars usually belong ). i was a bit confused with all the posts, since everyone was talking about opening up their trunks. (i expected the b pillar to be the piece between the rear seat and the trunk per the way things were described in the posts). Once you pry off the drivers side rear threshold, you'll start to see the oh so familiar orange MOST cables.... and just follow the post from there.
thanks to everyone for the help

As a matter of reference the A-pillar is at the windshield and forward front door, the B-pillar is between the front and rear doors, and the C-pillar is at the trunk and rear door. But you already know that.
Also, MOST cables are not clearly marked with the component that they are connected to. After disassembling a coupling the MOST cable connected to the previous component can be determined by turning the key. This will cause the ring to wake-up. The cable that transmits red light is connected to the previous component the cable without light is connected to the next component. Use this in configuring the ring if need be.
My observation, if your vehicle is in fact pre-wired you should follow posts 4 through 7 as shown in this thread to configure the MOST ring at the C-pillar (trunk) tapping into the MOST cable coming from TeleAid and allowing it to continue thereafter to the AGW (as shown in MOST diagram). Just so you know the TeleAid module is located beneath the floor covering in the trunk forward of the spare tire.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to get the MOST and instrument cluster re-programmed from the dealer?
Also, how are supposed to know if our car is pre-wired? (I have a 2004 E500 if that helps)

I'm not sure that this question was ever directly answered. What's the point of having to buy a harness when the car already comes "prewired" with one?

the alternative to doing that is utilizing the factory wiring harness... its alot more cumbersome... for me it involved pulling up the rear threshold, following the wires to the b pillar and trying to read the tiny, blurry labels printed on them. i couldnt read mine to well (even with 20/20 vision) so there was a bit of guess and check involved in trying the different wires.
the other side of things is that some cars may not come prewired... i had an 03 (late 2002 build date) and my car came fully prewired... even the bracket was there. according to steve this was because i had keyless go, parktronic, and other goodies, so i had the luxury of prewiring... it saved me time and $$$ in the end

the point of the harness i guess is to make the integration of nav drive into the loop easier (since the audio gateway is right there... you just make your own addition to the optical ring)
