murman - request for support

Murman, I have read through this thread and am wondering if you can send me a pm at shawn.hale (at) gmail (dot) com with a writeup of what you purchased for your wagon and what difficulties you ran into for the navigation retrofit. I basically have the same vehicle '04 E320 Wagon 4-Matic and want to retrofit. I did see your post about the trunk liner part number. Any other information is most appreciated. Thanks,

Now that I have completed retrofitting a navigation system to a 2005 W211, I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to contribute back to the forum. So I took some pictures and wrote a short step by step to help those who might be interested in doing the same. Hope these information would be of benefit to members of this board.

These steps are intended for a 2005 MY W211 sedan which has a full screen COMAND head unit. This particular model has everything pre-wired, so the install would consist of installing a DVD processor in the trunk for plug and play operation. No cutting or splicing of wires needed. The most difficult part is probably removing and re-installing the trunk panel. So if you can do that, this is an extremely easy retrofit.

I ordered the complete kit from mbdoctor.com and received everything within a week as promised (I am on the west coast). Sammy was excellent to deal with. He called me after the order was placed to confirm the spec of my car so correct parts are ordered. Subsequent call were answered promptly, and he patiently answered all my questions. He even included a detailed instruction to make the installation a breeze. Kudos to Sammy, I would definitely do business with him again in the future.

This is what the install kit consists of:
1 Base bracket A211 545 54 40
1 Processor bracket A211 545 63 40
1 Navigation processor A220 820 60 85
1 MOST fiber adaptor A211 540 68 33
1 GPS antenna splitter A210 820 24 89
1 Screw N 910 105 006 023
1 Nut N 910 112 006 003
1 Left rear trunk panel A 211 690 01 53 9C53

note: truck panel comes in different variations, you will need to specify the following when ordering:
1. If the car has fold down seat
2. If there is a cigarette lighter power outlet in the trunk
3. Color of the trunk interior (black or gray)
Hello,
Sorry about this stupid question but I have a Audio 50 and I bought an APS 50 and I don't know how to remove the central unit (HU) so that I install the new command. I don't see any screw locations anywhere. Thanks a lot for your help

Can you decide on the HU you have now? Is it an Audio 50 APS (Europe only) or a Comand?

Several posts explain how to remove the HU, search here or Audio & Telematics (you would have to start from the gear shift lever panel, ashtray, CD-changer and then open the bolts from the bottom of the HU).

It really would be a surprise if it was not the GPS antenna. It should not cost too much to buy a new antenna with a compatible connector with your Navi processor. I would try with a new antenna (don't have to install it, just attach and put it so that it sees satellites).

2004 E500 Wagon (w211)
Ref thread # 61: (BB964) I have the same machine as you and I called and ordered parts from Zimbrick MB Motors of Madison, WI. Their prices (list) and Whsl for the same items were as follows: (List $ in parents) I worked a discount via a Dealer friend here in La Crosse which amounted to about 30% less!

6-7-82-3111 Splitter ($52.00) - $41.60
211-545-79-40 Bracket ($49.50) - $39.60
211-545-63-40 Supporting Holder ($29.50) - $23.60
211-690-21-25-8J40 Panelling (Stone colour) ($214.00) - $171.20

Shipping/handling = $7.50

The price of doing business with MB Dealers!!

use an antenna with a FAKRA connector, it would be the same as a satellite radio antenna, but make sure the connector is a FAKRA.

Im atteptming this retro fit at the moment and Im lost half way through.

My car is a Uk 2004 E320 cdi with:
Aps50 navigation
harman Kardon audio

I want to upgrade from APS50 to COMAND

Ive installed the new head unit, piece of cake.

Ive got the boot liner off, and have 2 issues:
1: no power plug present, would this be just power or speed signals too?
2: The gps lead is too short, is there a part number for an extention, only needs to be 6-12 inches.

Are you upgrading to APS50, or to COMAND? Not clear from your post...

If you are upgrading to APS50, the GPS antenna should be installed behind your instrument cluster, not in the boot.

Thanks, Ive edited my post.

I did find the part number for the nav drive power cable, this also includes a 10inch extention for the gps wire, part number:
A2115409109

One thing in still uncertain of is the wires that are on the power block for the nav unit. There are 3 wires, 2 go into the rear SAM, one is a pink wire which came with the above harness but is over a metre long and is not connected at present. I assume its a speed signal?
Any one know where it goes?

No, the pink wire is the wake-up line for the MOST fibre ring.

Does it matter if this is not connected? As the navigation system seems to be working fine. And where would I be able to connect this wire to?

Thanks

Odd that it works. I would anyway connect it to the wake-up line distributor, you should find one somewhere close to the AGW, wires with the same colour connected together.

Laic's questions: what is SAM, MOST, AGW

Hi, I am the newst member of this forum (as of the current time: 3am, 23 Nov 2008), guaranteed, so I have several lame questions...

What do SAM, MOST, AGW, etc..., stand for???

And also, could anyone give me a hint where the GPS antenna for a 2008 ML350 would be located? It does not have the hunch/hump on top of the roof, where I expect to find things like this.

Thanks in advance!

SAM = Signal Acquisition Module (driver, passenger side, and trunk)
MOST = Media Oriented System Transport (fiber optic shared communication)
AGW = Audio Gateway (amplifier)

GPS antenna, see #10 in diagram.

I have everthing for this and i am stuck at one step.
WHERE IS THE MOST WIRE THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE AGW?
Where is it connected to exactly.
If anyone has a picture of this connection in the trunk, that will make my life so much easier.
Please let me know, besides this, i have figured out everything.
Thanks in advance.
