Traction control what? Who says we need a better diff..

Left 2 tire marks for me.

This was taken today, laid the rubber last friday..

For what its worth, and for those who aren't as rambunctious, traction control still kicked in a little. The rev cutoff is just much higher.

And also- no problems obviously with getting both wheels to spin in the right direction. Aren't there people complaining about this? Maybe more with the E55.

That would be hard to do on a 4-Matic. No fun there.

You could do it. Rev it to 5K in neutral, then pull the shifter back all the way. Thats how I did it in my old A4 w/quattro.. (manual) I hold no responsibility for your tranny turning into sand.

Just kidding you. Seeing the two equal stripes makes me wonder about something, though. Do cars (or specifically, our cars) still have mechanical limited-slip differentials, or have electronic traction-control systems replaced the old PosiTraction (etc.) limited-slip differentials?

Now you make me wonder if my car has a throttle kill switch that will not let the transmission engage if the rpms are too high. On my family's 99 BMW 740 IL the rpms would drop to about 1,500 and then it would engage.

Either way, I personally will not test this on my car, but when I get a loaner . . . who knows. Even when they are not my cars, it hurts me to do this kind of stuff to nice cars. I personally did not do that to our BMW, but my brother sure did.

FWIW, I'd never do that to your or my car

Oh yes, I'm reminded now.. IIRC, people have said that a limited slip diff is either not necessary or actually creates problems. The wheelspin is controlled electronicly, probably based upon the physics of the existing diff/power/etc. This, again, has been more of an E55 topic, but still applies. People always questioned why the E55 et al don't come with one. I guess this is why.
