Location of W211 cig lighter fuse (front)
Hello all,
I recently blew the cigarette lighter fuse in the front ashtray on my 03 E500. Of course the fuse box paperwork lists no fuse for the front lighter, only the 12v fuse for the console one.
Any ideas?
PS...I have all the same electrical gremlins (radio buzz, cell phone, ect as everyone else with no help from the dealer)
Rick

It probably doesn't list the fuses and relays because it is so complex. Check fuse 54a and 54b first. If those are good, check fuse 42 on cars built up to May 2004. If that's all good, you may want to check relay K75. The battery control module has control of that socket. That's so it can shut it down if the car's battery is going too low. All those fuses and the relay play into that equation.

I might add... those are in the fusebox under the hood, except for 42 which is on the left (or driver's... not sure which) side of the dash.
There are five main fuseboxes: under the hood, side of the dash, under the passenger false floor, left side of the trunk, and the spare tire area under the trunk.

Sort of on the topic of fuse boxes, where is the preferred place to get switched power for a windshield mounted radar detector. I remember something about this before, but can't seem to find much when I search the forums. Sunroof seems to ring a bell.

Making Cig Lighter constantly Live
Thanks for the advice on which fuse controls the front cigar lighter (54a under the bonnet).
If anyone is interested and needs to make the lighter live, even with the ignition off and key out. This fuse can be removed and plugged into the contacts slightly to the left... there are 3 contacts in a row and if the fuse is in the left two, it is constant live, in the right two, is accessory controlled to power off with the key removed.
changing the position of the fuse allowed me to plug my temporary DVD player in, without the movie starting again every time you stop the car!

Nice Job
Excellent work. I lost the cigarette lighter in my car and looked everywhere. I even asked the dealer. I knew someone in the forum could tell me. Even better, I learned how to make it constantly live. Amazing I used this info years after the original posting.
Fuse 54 in the engine compartment (driver's side).
Thanks everyone

Sorry to revive an old thread. Thanks to this thread my broken cigarette power outlet came back to life. I was also hoping it would fix the light surrounding the outlet, however that is still broken . I don't suppose it is controlled via another fuse? It used to come on occasionally, but since the outlet died altogether it has never turned on again...
