Just for fun I thought I would ask. Here is mine:

E320 = 22.9 MPG over 29,000 miles (2004 MY)

Actual mileage on a 4,800 mile vacation including several high mountain passes was 27 MPG.

Most Interstate speeds were 80+ in the west and a bit slower in the Midwest.

The car had 200 miles on it when we left and the trunk was full of heavy luggage.

The trip computer was optimistic by 1-2 MPG.

I get about 17mpg w/ 12K miles on her. Its gone up a bit since my commute is more highway and less side roads.

Was getting 16 mpg in my 03 E500 using Gulf gas. I randomly got a tank of Sunoco a couple of months ago and noticed that my mileage was a little better. I decided to switch for a while to see if it was a coincidence. Since I switched, I have gotten 18-19 mpg. Guess I have a new gas.

Wow. Was the gas the same grade? I usually get Chevron, Shell, or Texaco.

Yup, 93 octane. Both gas stations are brand new, one across the street from the other. I was shocked. I have this weird innate dislike for Sunoco, too. It was hard to choose it as my gas of choice, but it is hard to ignore a 12-18% increase in mileage.

I use Chevron 90% of the time. Gotta like the Techron detergent package.

I am pleasantly surprised at the efficiency of this car. Long trips with average speeds of ~75 to 85 yield trip mpg of about 27mpg.

Very close to the EPA numbers - high teens around town, around 25 on long trips at quasi-legal highway speed. The around-town is mostly with my wife driving; she's the primary driver and is a featherfoot, at least when I'm along. The local mileage is probably lower when I drive, much lower when I drive alone. Keeping the carbon blown out of the cylinders and valves is a thankless job, but somebody's gotta do it.

I'm going to test the gas at my local stations, too. I never thought of it but I guess even a 91octane rating can have some variability in it. We only get 91 around here. No 93 availible ;(

At 15,000 Miles: 16-17 around the neighborhood with very limited highway use, and a stunning 28.6 on the interstates NY to Boston using only Mobil Premium (since they are where I liv/work/drive)

on E500 typically is between 15 and 17 mpg. It's at 16.1 right now at 17k miles.

The E55 at 4,000 miles is average a cool 11 mpg.

And yes, I do have a leaded foot. Thank you.

If i drive slowly, i can get about 18 mpg on the E500.

I do a lot of local driving, and even my part of my daily highway commute can be considered local (damn Route 80), and I'm averaging about 16-19 mpg. Pure local/city trips bring that down to about 11-14 mpg. Some highway trips I get about 25-26 mpg. 20K+ miles.

I have about 3,000 miles on the OEM tires and about 4,500 miles on the Blizzaks. About 80% of my driving is driving over Loveland Pass and Vail Pass between 60 and 80 MPH. If I am not on I 70, then I am on two lane canyon roads going up and down hills at about 45 MPH. I have over 800 miles of driving on loose and packed snow at very slow speeds. Also, when I do take the Mercedes to work, it is 1 mile (I usually avoid driving such short distances). When I drive it around town, the average speed is about 20 MPH, so it is total city driving.

So, with all this in mind my 4-Matic still has a total life average of 22.5 MPG (US statute mile and gallon). I have gotten as low as 16 and as high as 29. It is no CDI, but I am sure happy I have not had to pull my car out of a ditch yet. Or worse, skid backwards into a car when you are trying to accelerate from a stop at an uphill traffic light.

I will post more specifics later.

I average about 12.5 - 13.0 mpg. 90% of my driving consists of round trips of 15 miles or less. I got about 1 mpg more with my first E500. I recently drove to see a friend about 2.5 hrs away (freeway) and averaged about 17 or 18 mpg. (Average speed incluing stops and driving around his small town was 78 mph.)

Well, I finally got around to updating a bunch of things and the MPG log on Excel was one of them. Here is the latest. I figure that if I had a CDI I would have saved about $200 in fuel costs (I am being optimistic on the savings here). However, there is no way I could have driven a RWD CDI where I have taken my 4 Matic, so the cost difference would not have been worth it yet.

Here is the spreadsheet.
