Good Bye E500 -> Welcome Cls500
What do u guys think about trading in E500 for the CLS 500? Is it a good move? Will CLS 500 hold better value than the W211 let say 3 to 5 years from now? Any other consideration? Any thought?
I know we are talking about $15K different, but let's put this $15K on the side for a second...
Appreciated in advance.

No, will not hold value better...
In 5 years, more nifty new merchandise will be available.
There is more "want" in the price of a CLS than an E.
As the "want" fades, price will move along the supply/demand curve to the new equilibrium, where the "want" for CLS will consist of demand for a "nice" transportation appliance.
On a percentage basis, if you can get a good deal on an E now versus full, inflated book on the CLS, you will get creamed on the CLS, whereas you would just take a good bath on the E.
Can you get the CLS on Euro Delivery and use frequent flyer credit for a free lift across the pond?

was '03 E320 - now - '04 S4
I parked next to a CLS500 yesterday. I still think it is rather unattractive. Walked around both cars and I must say the nose of the CLS is better looking. Made the E look rather stodgy in comparison.
Every other angle - I like the E better.

I second cdiken's discussion (the dreaded "Me too"). The best time to buy a car, in financial terms, is not when its "want" level is at the highest. I'm not suggesting that the CLS is another PT Cruiser or Chrysler 300 - it's a real Mercedes, and its good looks shouldn't be held against it - but it will inevitably be available on better terms a year from now.
Nonetheless - love and reason are often at odds. If someone is well and truly in love with a car, rational financial calculations don't matter. If we all bought cars on the basis of rational financial calculations, we would be in the Camry or Accord online forum, not the W211 forum.

Does anyone have any driving feel difference experiences between the two models?? I always assumed that the E was more "agile", but it looks like it weighs more and some are claiming otherwise.
Can someone also fill us in on any drivetrain differences between the two? Like dimensional, suspension configurations, steering racks, etc.
I just assumed 500 was a 500, but I'm learning that is not true.

Just swap the CLS500 to my 5 months old E500 this morning, took me about 1/2 hour paper work, an hour swaping those 55 pedals, Euro DVD command... it is in my garage now. The different (in look) so far to me is definitely the AMG CLS55 body kit, AMG 18 twin spoke - love it so much. (In driving) the steering felt little lighter and it feels lower and handling little better (might be the wider track and tires) will update you guys later.
I just want to Thank you ALL of you answer all my questions and it is an excellent knowledage forum. Good luck to you all and take good care! Depart to CLS board now.
Cheers!

Does any one have all of the technical specs listed out? I'll check the website, but I was hoping for a better report on what you guys mean by lighter steering? Is that less feel or just more power steering. One thing I love about the E is how it stiffens up at speed and gets "loose" in parking lots.

Whats the dif if the "lighter" steering is from power steering differences or tire camber..... Its lighter none the same. Some will like the feel and some that like to slam the corners won't.
