Paint Protectant Film

Has anyone tried this transparent paint protection film? If so, what were your thoughts and what issues did you have?

S500
Clearshield

I have a 01 S500 that I put Clearshield protective film on. I drove it 7 hours after it cured and the bug clean up was a cinch and there were no dings. Make sure your installation is top notch or you will have to trim it with a razor blade once the dirt and debris start to adhere to it.

I have had the 3M product on a bunch of my cars, the W211 included. I find it to be the best choice when it comes to protecting against paint chips caused by gravel and minor rocks on the road. I find that it performs very well and has saved me from a few paint chips already.

I have the whole front end done (the high, low beams and the fog lights have a thicker plastic cover that I bought from Performance Products). I also have both A pillars covered, the front of the side mirrors and the inside of each door handle (where nails tend to make little marks). I am contemplating getting the top of the rear bumper covered since it is easy to scrape when you load and unload stuff.

In the last 8,500 miles since (August of 04), I have already gotten 3 rock hits that needed repair (I did not get to doing it yet) and I just got a new rock hit on Saturday that cracked the windshield. So I already made an appointment at the dealer to change the windshield. I have changed 3 windshields in the last 5 years between all my cars, the clear bra really has kept the paint in perfect condition. I think that it is well worth it.

You can only notice that it is there when the car is very dirty, I will post some pictures of how odd it looks. This only happens in the winter. Otherwise it is only visible if you know it is there and look for it.

I also have the 3M product on my 03' E320 and have been very pleased with its performance and appearance. Make sure you get it installed by someone who knows what they are doing - I have seen some examples that would have made me not buy the product.

I had mine professionally done too. The WHOLE front is covered (including all lamps). Make sure you have someone who has been doing it for several years. additional areas: part of the front hood, door handles and the areas around it (shell), edging of all doors, both mirrors, gas area (bottom portion), top rear bumper. don't forget to inquire about the warranty.

For me, the 3M product has done the trick. Hood, finger pulls, mirrors, 6 front lenses, rocker panels and front bumper have been done and it looks nearly new. Saved the finish from many chips and will have this installed on all future vehicles.

It's awesome and I recommend it on every vehicle you own.

I have had the product on my silver E320 for 8.5 years and it still looks good. It has protected the car as advertised and I can not detect any discoloring. I will definitely put it on my next vehicle.
