I too am thinking of getting the ipod integration kit installed. How much did the dealer quote you for it?

Be careful sosh. I went in a couple of weeks ago to get my dock installed on my 2005 w211. Turns out the kit was for the new M class only. To my knowledge, the kit for the w211 won't be out until July.

Dealer says he has them in stock for the W211 and also for the W164 which I get in August.

I used it in a M-Class, sounds great and easy to operate.

Keep us posted. The service guy said he didn't have a clue when they'd be available for my car. He said to keep an eye on the forums because we hear about stuff here before MB lets the tech guys know.

Smile Ipod Available for the 211 in the Bay Area

Guys, I have not yet be able to check this out however.....I took my E-500 in to the dealership today for the "introductory free service" and inquired about the Ipod. I was also told that the units were available for the ML class, but not the 211. The service rep did say that Auto Symphony in San Francisco has the device and is very busy installing them in the E class.

Probably worth it to check. Auto Symphony is a high end specialty retailer and installer of sound systems and has been around for decades. It may even be cheaper than a MB dealer. Check it out, as I will or wait till August.

Sunny day in San Francisco :p

Has anyone actually seen which iPod menus are displayed on the IP screen? e.g. is it just playlists, or can you scan through artists, genre, albums, etc.?

MB Tech-USA: which of the iPod menus are accessible? All? Some? Is the display just on the instrument cluster, or does it also appear on the Command screen? Any info is appreciated. My dealer has no info.

Go to mbusa.com and you can play with an interactive demo. It looks like the info is in the dash display. I don't know about the comand.

I've seen the demo. Thanks. Hoping the demo is a pre-release (limited) representation of the actual production interface. Maybe not. Would appreciate hearing from some one who's actually played with the the thing in the car. MB Tech - USA? Anyone?

According to Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH, the kit for the E-class will be available from end of June. It will only be visible in the cluster, not on the COMAND screen. The sound is transfered via the AUX (only available on E's with COMAND), and the controls via fiber.

Here is a chart of the different models with AUX:

Oslo, does that mean once the dock is installed, we no longer have an AUX input in the glove box for other devices?

Sorry, but since the kit is not out yet, there are still some questions to be answered.

In the 164, that is true. Probably the same for the other models too, but we'll have to wait to find out for sure.

In the meanwhile, you do know that you can just plug it into your AUX jack and use it, right?

I have been unable to locate the AUX jack in my 03 W211, any suggestions?

Thanks!

I believe the glovebox AUX jack was introduced with the 2005 model year.

That's my understanding as well. The MB web site "News" area re: iPod just talks about model year cars 05 and 06, with a kit intro in the 06 ML.

Wrong! My car was produced Oct. 2003, the AUX is there and I use it every day! When they say that the Ipod Kit is for cars produced in 2005, I don't think it's the presence of the AUX port they are talking about, but the harness and software included from 2005.

Thanks for the correction, my mistake

My reading of the US MB site was that the kit comprised the harness and software, so I'm left wondering why the kit isn't going to be supported - they say - on pre-05 cars.

FYI, got my 05 back from the dealer's today. Was in for post delivery inspection and I had ordered an I Pod docking kit installed. I Pod dock was not installed due to availability and will be available in Aug. Parts manager had previously told me that they were in stock. However when opening the box he found that all the pieces were not there. He was told to return the partial kits and MB will have the correct items in Aug.
