Angry SRS light and Cell phone interference

My SRS light came on many times and the MB dealership tried to fix it (about 3-4 times) but failed to solve the problem. They finally told me that my cellphone is interfering with the electrical system and causing that malfunction. They provided me with a solution, either turn off the cellphone (and ask all of my passangers in the car to do so) or to purchase a $1000 Motorola integrated phone (but I still have to ask my passangers to turn off their cellphones). And the service manager also said that it's already written clearly in the owner's manuel that electronic devices are not to be used in the car. I have feeling that the MB dealership is trying to make up an excuse and to blame the malfunction on me. I don't recall Lexus or Infinity telling their customers to stop using their cellphones in the car. I am very disappointed with the new MB quality control and their customer service. I think they need to learn from Japnese car manufacturers on how to make a more reliable car.
Just wonder is any of you has this experience?

Go for a different dealer. Clearly their technicians are incapable finding silly excuses. My SRS warning on an SL500 was once blamed on a radar detector which was pathetic as I had it before the detector. Ask them to look harder they'll find the problem.

What dealer are you going to? Clearly this dealer is incompitent and will do whatever it takes to make money off of you. I would go to a different dealer immediately as they will be able to treat you like a real customer.

SRS light and Cell phone interference

I go to the San francisco MB dealership and their services were poor and very incompetent.

I highly suggest you go elsewhere then. In my E55 and E350 the car works fine even with all the gizmos i have on at once. I could have my laptop on with bluetooth, and my GPRS/EDGE card, cell phone, and PDA's and all the safety systems, and all other gizmos work fine. I feel sorry for you given that you have to put up with lackluster service for such a fine automobile.

When my local Vancouver dealer couldn't promptly fix my SRS light on the SL500 after half a dozen trials, they were apologetic enough to give me a Mercedes phone as a token of appreciation. After the 7th attempt, they replaced a part and the problem never returned.

I have both a CDMA MB phone and a GSM phone, with the latter, I connect to the internet via GPRS on a regular basis to check email in the car, no SRS problem on the E whatsoever.

I would complain to the MB regional in your area and seek help from another dealership.

The dealer is talking bull*** they are trying to sell you accessorie.....get rid of them and go somewhere else.

My SRS comes on now and then...the dodgy dealer changed the battery and charged MBz a packet for labour etc and it still causes the problem. The thing is its very infrequent. have a diff dealer check it out on Diags and seen what comes out.

Have you guys thought about having the dealer replace all the sensors? I had a few faulty sensors on my Accord a while back that was causing the SRS light to go off. A few sensors later everything was working fine.

They said it's my child seat recognition sensor that was malfunctioned. They have replaced that already and still has the problem. However, the light does not come on very frequently. I was just mad about the way they treat their customers...May be I will try a different dealership. I will definitely write a complaint to the local MB regional about this incident.

Write a complaint to MBUSA in New Jersey, the dealerships owner and manager, and the regional service manager. Clearly this is not acceptable at any level.

The real question should be, Why is Mercedes having so many SRS malfunctions?

My SRS light came on last week. As soon as I turned the car on after they supposedly had fixed it, it had an EPS malfunction. They initially replaced the "Horn Contact Spiral switch" (whatever that is). But, they said they should have also replaced another switch that is closely associated with the aforementioned switch (of which I did not get the name because I had already received my invoice after the intial fix).

Of course, my SA blames it on Mercedes' vendors. To me, that is NOT an excuse. However which way you look at it, quality, and lack of it, will always have Mercedes' name on it.

I have this same problem. One day it came on, then when I was thinking about bringing it to the dealership, it shut off. Now, a week later, the light came on again so we'll see what the dealer will do to help this.

Knock on wood. No problems to this date on both E's and the S class.
