Can I retro an 06' COMAND to my 03' ?
Are there any differences in the new 06' COMAND that won't allow me to do a retro in to my 03' W211? I know of people retroing 04,05 COMANDS but havent heard anything about an 06' being retro'd... I'm interested in this EURO 06 COMAND taken from an 06 E55:

that is not a US spec COMAND.. Not even a Eurospec.. Its slightly different. Doesn't have a SAT button or a VIDEO button. Don't buy it. Notice the diff in the bottom right button(s), among other button labels.
FWIW, that seller looks shady - and that pic of the COMAND looks like hes in the 'hood. Not a shop. Probably S. America/middle east unit or something.
US SPEC:
EURO SPEC:

I honestly don't think it's an OEM Command.. It's probably some aftermarket replica. I would strongly suggest you get a command from Steve.

I wonder if it isn't some kind of original prototype... cause I can't see how anyone would have the tooling to make a replica without the huge cost of doing that being prohibitive for the size of the potential market.
It can also be a first generation model lifted out of a '02 built car... but frankly if I'm going to put a piece of hardware like that into my car, it's coming from the dealer (With warranty).

Definitely doesn't look like either Euro or US spec COMANDs. On top of that, there's no MY06 E55 yet.... sounds fishy
I compared the buttons to Japanese COMANDs and they seem to match:

ooh.. (drool).. that means it would have that birds eye, and 3d view capability discussed some time ago..
..wonder if those features would work when installed on a US spec w211..

Would the US Nav system work with this?
Can you even hook up a GSM phone to it? They are running an entirely different system in Japan (docomo, au by KDDI, Vodafone), even though they do have WCDMA 3G (Vodafone 3G, FOMA).

I guess language could be a problem. Not sure if the soft buttons show up in Japanese or English. You need to ask the PRO (Steve)

I don't know how the japanese 211 comand works...I do know that the 203 DVD comands in japanese spec are completely useless as soft buttons are in japanese and there are no discs for anywhere outside Japan that work with that system.

I have a Japanese E500 console
Hi all
The DVD and Midi disk player is behind the screen
The in dash 6 stack cd changer is behind a panel directly below the console.
You can select english and get rid of most of the chicken feet (japanese writing)
I have just got the car and I am investigating my console swap options.
A band expander fixes the FM stations.
The DVD is locked to Japan region code and won't work on region zero DVD's.
It is also not MP3 CD compatable
cheers
