Just got back from a 140 miles trip that's all highway driving. Highest I got was 24.6mpg going about 60 mph, I also noticed mileage drop down about 1mpg when I cruise above 80mph. During city driving I get anywhere between 13-15mpg, highest was 17 when traffic was sparse.

Just another mileage observation.

We did a trip from FL to PA, total round trip distance was 2950 miles. Best highway MPG was a sustained 28.5 MPG with the cruise at 80 MPH in Virginia in the early AM. Average MPG for the entire trip -- which included about three slow hours in very heavy rain that really dented the overall average -- was 26 MPG.

Around town I regularly see 19.5 to 20.5 MPG. Given that my previous daily driver was a 6850lb Ram V10 2500 4x4 which got 9 MPG highway or city, that's pretty fantastic to me.

The E500 mileage appears to be highly sensitive to weather conditions, and I find mileage improves significantly between 70 MPH and 85 MPH, and drops off quite a lot outside of that range.

Just did Phila to Woodbury NY and return with a side trip to Brooklyn and Massapequa, Averaged on the tpk and expressways 26 MPG and in city traffic and traffic jams 18.5. Did the whole trip of 350 miles with a full tank start and had better than a quarter tank remining on return. This was with my 05 E320 4M.

I drove a 250 mile round-trip on Saturday at 28mpg. The temperature was 82 when we left in the morning and hit 100 on the return trip. Our speed was set at 70 mph in the 65mph zones and at 75 for about 80 miles of the trip. The mileage did peak at 29.2 mpg but a bunch of stop-and-go traffic dropped the average.

E 500 (Gas) NY to Hartford CT 70-75 MPH, no cruise control, read the MPG after resetting computer to "0" eliminating all the street driving done to get to the first expressway. Milage read 29.4 at trips end. (Mobil Premium used almost exclusively due to proximity of Mobil stations to wherever I go)

23.52 mpg

Isn't the "Imperial Gallon" as (officially) dead in Canada as the peck, the bushel and the cubit?

I took a 480 mile round trip last weekend. Most of the driving was on Interstate highway. One hour of stop and go traffic for highway construction resulted in 22.1 mpg for the trip there. I got 25.5 mpg driving between 82 and 90 mph for the return trip.

Well, 10 per 100 is the best I have ever gotten. Usually it is around 11 on the highway..

I had a C class loaner a few times and it is seems that I get better MPG in the E500 then in a C240, I guess due to the 7 speed..

Got 38.1 Mpg at 70mph on a stretch of freeway about 12 miles in Phoenix three days ago... Temp was about 90 degrees outside, and elevation about 1500'.

You guys are getting some really good milages here. I had an oil change and air filter changed out before the trip and still not getting as good milage as some of you guys. Maybe I need to have the valves cleaned.

My experience has been that the trip computer has not always been accurate (tends to be a little overly optimistic). You need to make sure it is calibrated and do a manual check on its accuracy.

Just drove from Washington, DC to NYC... averaging about 65 MPH. Trip computer said 32 MPG. I've been very happy with my highway mileage. City mileage is just okay... around 16 MPG.

To be fair, it does say "320 CDI" in your profile area, but whenever the topic turns to fuel consumption, CDI drivers should be required to state "THIS IS CDI MILEAGE" so that us gasoline drivers can be instantly envious instead of incredulous.

Anytime I get less then 36 mpg on the highway with the '05 CDI, I have the wife get out and push.

I am getting my '06 CDI this week and expecting even BETTER mileage....but just in case....I'm getting the wife a new pair of sneakers......and a harness.

Sorry, I didn't catch that this was a gas only survey.. However, I am still reeling from the shock of the milage this thing gets.. 4000lbs empty sedan that can get Honda Civic milage and do 0-60 in 6.6 to 6.8 sec.. Someone wake me up!

BTW.. Spartan, PM me as to why your switching out of an '05 to an '06... unless you want to share with everyone else.

On mixed driving I average 37.6 mpg. On a recent 350m highway trip at a steady 55mph I averaged 46.7.

I love the CDI......but make sure you follow the brake recall notices VERY CAREFULLY.

I had a particular problem with my CDI BUT Mercedes of Canada has dealt with it. In fact, I was told today that they are TRUCKING my new car from Halifax ($$$) so I can have it for this weekend. So far, they have done all the right things to deal with my problem so as angry as I was, I still think highly of them. In fact, they are living up to the expectations for a company of their reputation and stature.

I shudder to think of how it would have been resolved if it was any other car company.

My car is apparently from a build date (03/05) that isn't affected.. the cut off is 03/05, and I guess the factory addressed the issue on those models and the '06's.

Back on topic... I just did a drive of about 5 miles at 55mph steady without stops and got 39.3 mpg according to the onboard computer. Not bad.

Ahh c'mon guys, just because the CDI's are faster, more economical, last longer and the owners get better sex, we shouldn't boast about it. :p

To balance things out, here is something the gas car owners can pick on us. About once every 750 miles, we have to refill our cars and chances are, the name of the person in the next pump is BillyBob.........NOT BillyJean.

BillyJean.....

BillyBob......
