What type of motor oil?

I had paid out of pocket and have my oil changed at a local garage I provide them M-1 Super Syn and oem filters to do the job. Now my E is due for a change in about 4k miles and I want to take it to the dealer for the free change. Any one know which oil does dealer use? Mobil1 super synthetic or do dealers use the Mobil clean 7500 stuff?

Dealer uses Mobil 1.... Reality is, any syn would be just fine as long as the wt is correct for your area (weather).

They're supposed to use 0W-40 Mobil 1 or any of the oils on this list designated 229.5 or 229.3. These are all true Base 4 Synthetics.

But are they the same as Mobil1 Super Syn like the ones found in stores? Or do they use a downgraded oem version like the Mobil1 Drive clean 7500 etc, I would assume the additives found in those two oils would be the only difference?

As far as I am aware

They use M1 0w-40. When I had the oil changed in my E-320 the invoice indicated that they used this weight. I have been able to get this oil locally (DC area) for use in my Audi S4. The price is around $4.79 a quart. I think that both the E 320 and the S4 have capacities around 10 quarts.

Of course it's the same oil! It meets Mercedes 229.5 specifications. Do you see Mobil 1 Drive Clean 7500 on this list? http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html.

I suspect that Drive Clean is a petroleum based (Base 3) oil that Mobil is calling a synthetic. They can do it and have done it with their 30 weight Mobil 1 oils.

Either change your own oil using one of the oils meeting Mercedes 229.5 specs or take your car to a Mercedes dealer who will use an oil meeting those specs (most likely 0W-40 Mobil 1 in the U.S.)

From the Mobil web site: Product Description
Mobil Clean 7500 is formulated from a combination of synthetic and conventional quality base stocks.

Specifications & Approvals
Mobil Clean 7500 Meets the following industry specifications:
API SM
API SL
API SJ
API CF
API CD
ILSAC GF-4
GM 6094M
FORD WSS-M2C930-A
FORD WSS-M2C929-A

Somehow, I don't see any MB specs for this oil. I will stick with the M1 0-40 European formula for my E320s.

As you can see, it's a blended oil not 100% synthetic. Mercedes requires a true synthetic. Anyone in the US should use 0W-40 Mobil 1.

When Porsche first started putting 0W-40 Mobil 1 in at the factory, it wasn't available in the U.S. They told people to use 15W-50 Mobil 1.
