Frozen Radio

On my way home today, my radio froze up. It wouldn't let me change the station, switch the screen to Navi, Map, Sat, Phone... I finally had to turn off the car for 10 min, then start it back up. After that, it was fine. Anyone else have this kind of experience? Thanks

Sound like the old audio gateway problems - should have been fixed from the factory long before 2005 model year

I had that problem a couple of days ago. I restarted the car several times without any change. The MB logo would come up on the screen and then go away after about 30 seconds. I ended up pulling the fuse for the audio gateway ( 40 amp !!) and reseating it. That seemed to be the thing to reset it. It worked fine yesterday.

Command

I had this problem in my S-Class, they replaced the command unit and it hasn't happened since.

I have the HK radio (not with Command). My radio would freeze up occasionally. They did the software updates; still would freeze up occasionally. I finally brought it in to the service department while it was exhibiting the problem, which was a minor miracle. Anyways, they thought it was the audio gateway. The audio gateway was changed but the problem persisted. They then put back the original audio gateway and replaced the head unit. Problem solved. The head unit was replaced over a year ago with no further issues. My advice is to try to drive it to them right when the Command unit is frozen. Good luck.

I was able to pull and reset the audio gateway fuse to reset the system. I will talk to the service adviser about this problem the next time I go in for service.

It should work without glitches. I would have them fix the problem. Odds are it would only get WORSE and NOT Better.

and sooner or later your warrantee will exprire too! I agree, get a final resolution for it.

BTW.. I recently had my 2005 (april '05 build date) E320 CDI gate way software updated... so this tells me there is a version of that software newer than 4/05... for those of you with out that upgrade.

Don't Be Suprised

Don't Be Suprised if the Newer Software Update doesn't cause another different problem.

Pessimistic attitude, but with their track record lately I would put money on it.

SIDE NOTE:

I have an old SL320 and I had the dealer replace the brake light on the center of the trunk. The nitwit put it in upside down, the service department said how do I know it's upside down, I told them it was obvious it you opened your EYES and looked at it. The brake light is narrower at the top and wider at the bottom, and the car cutout is the same. The GENIUS put the wider part at the top and the narrower part at the bottom. This may be hard to believe, but it doesn't fit to well that way.
