best way to shine worn bumper

I need some advice on the best product to use. The rear bumper on my car has some areas that look "stained". The color of the car is pewter and there are faint brown vertical streaks on the bumper which dont come off with normal washing. Is there a good product that can clean this up or are they permanent

Have a pro detailer buff it out. Usually $120-150 on a full detail includes buff out. I have pewter and had some scratches on door buffed out too.

I would:

1. Claybar

2. Scratch-X

3. Wax/polish

Try a can of $2 polishing compound before spending $100+ . I've found that Simonize Polishing Compound will remove most evils.

I don't think claying it work as good, just because the bumpers are plastic and not metal like the body. Go with the option of having it professionally buffed and polished. you can get a complete detail of the car for about 150 bucks. Then you can just keep up the shine with a good car polish.

Clay even works great on glass. There is no problem with using clay on a plastic bumper that has been painted.

I would reccomend washing the car with Dawn..yes dawn... dish soap (orig blue bottle). Dawn will dissolve wax and other sealants, and easily removes grease, tar and bug remains. (Be sure to rinse your car very well after using Dawn) It is safe to use 1-2 times a year...

After that you should clay bar. That'll take off any residual nasties... If you've never used claybar before u can pick up some (claymagic is fine) for like $12 at autozone (or the like) make sure surface is lubricated well with detail spray when u use and wipe down..

if the stain remains then you can other cleaner polish products at that point as there should be no surface contaminants above the stain...

.. I wouldn't use compound at this point as it may also remove some of the paint...the clay bar does the job of the compound without removing paint.

shouldn't cost u much more that $15 + polish

it would be prudent to apply couple thin layers of wax/sealant after complete to protect finish. (I use zaino.. but that is kinda pricy)

Good Luck
