Most fuel-efficient cars for 2006...so where's the CDI?

4. Volkswagen Jetta (diesel) -- 36/41

10. Toyota Corolla (manual) -- 32/41
You'll see this in almost any story about fuel efficiency - it's the American media's utter fascination and brain-washing by the hybrid hoopla.
Conditions: A/C on, light wind, mostly cloudy. Tire pressure = 33psi on all tires cold
The loony left in the media and even my local government has latched onto the hybrid. They all tout "hybrid!" and probably don't even know what it means.
In my locality, the loony left that runs the town has purchased hybrid vehicles for the government fleet. The FACT not opionion is that if they really wanted to save fuel they would use THE BUS!...the very public transportation they advertise on TV. Zoning inspectors can take THE BUS when they go out to inspect that shed they think may be too close to the property line.
I have a friend with a Lexus 400h hybrid SUV. ACTUAL MILEAGE: 21 mpg!!!!!
Here in Virginia the state issues "CLEAN SPECIAL FUEL" tags for Hybrids. WAKE UP!!! Its not a special fuel: ITS GASOLINE!!!
We all know our CDI's are HYBRID KILLERS!
Elegant and understated, true to the Mercedes lineage. No hype, just results.
I had a guy in a Prius "mess with me" on the open road on the interstate. I suspect he knew what CDI meant but couldn't afford one. He kept siding up to me at 70 then punching it. I finally offered some play and he tried to run. Got up to the low 100's and he was history as I climbed on thru the 120's with a linear pull.
GASOLINE HYBRIDS SUCK! A diesel hybrid, I'll consider. DIESEL ENGINES ARE MADE TO POWER GENERATORS, NOT GASSERS!

The other thing I noticed is that the trip computer tends to stay in a certain range after half hour of driving. I wonder if they programmed it to read over longer periods once a certain time period passes by.
As for gas hybrids, they can kiss my ***. Do you know what it costs to replace the battery pack? I was told it cost at LEAST several thousand dollars. Hybrids are a hell of a con job on the Prius crowd.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Word will get out as to what batteries cost.
The result: a flood of 4-6 year old Hybrids on the used market soon.
Meanwhile, bids will be weak because potential buyers will know what they are getting into.
Actual sales prices will be in the toilet because of the huge oversupply combined with bids that will discount not only the cost of the batteries but also a pain in the **** factor for having to go through the process.

I can't wait to see the crappy residuals and re-sales on these hype-brids.. my CDI still has one of the highest residuals of any car sold
