Radio NOT Working!
I have a problem with my radio it plays the station but makes a weird noise like if interseption was going through and like it's ground wasnt making contact. If a play my CD's it works fine and this happens to the radio FM and AM. Has anyone experience this before or knows what this is?

03 E320 -wife's car now; 07 Porsche Boxster S - my toy
I have an '03 E320 with the HK radio and had a similiar problem within the first year of owning the car. At times, the radio system would start to make static and the static noise would grow very fast to a point where I couldn't hear anything -- radio and CD was affected (drive 0 on the radio and drives 1-6 on the changer). The first time, the dealer changed out some parts (I think the antenna and a signal splitter, I could check my work orders if you want to know exactly). Later, the radio did the same thing again and I shut it down, restarted the car and the stereo worked OK. Another time, it started again and I shut the stereo down, restarted the car, but the stereo wouldn't come back up. Another trip to the dealer with the dead stereo -- they spent a lot of time troubleshooting it, but eventually, they just used the SDS to reset it.
Since then, the stereo has worked OK with the static only happening a couple of times. As soon as I hear it coming, I shut the stereo down, then restart the car when convenient. So far, so good.........

I have 20% back all around but I dont think it is that because I have had tinted windows the day I bought the car and the car has about a year in a half with me. I did install a V1 radar directly to the car but that also has been installed for a while which shouldnt have anything to do with the cars radio.

Actually I made an apointment with the dealer so they could have it fixed but my cd works perfectly and the problem you had is very similar becuase it sound like static and at times it gets worse. Also some radio station cant be heard at all.

The static followed by dead radio is generally caused by bad audio gateway. There is probably a bulletin on this. Had this on 04 E320 and the audio gateway replacement fixed it once and for all.

Also have them check AGW control module, and AGW software.

Any chance you had the rear defroster (electric) on during the static episodes???? This is a known problem with some cars (including mine). Its due to a broken wire in the glass due to manufacturer. There is a TSB on the problem, but I don't know the number off hand. The dealer offered to fix mine by replacing the rear glass but I didn't want the glass monkeys violating my car, so I decided to live with it.... Its really nothing as it only happens when the defroster in on (rare in my neck of the woods) and I'm listening to CD's 95% of the time anyway....

I never turned on my rear defroster because here in Puerto Rico it is also 80 degree temp. I will have them check the gateway.
