2 sensors?

2 sensors?
Like many of you, my passanger seat belt sensor is acting up - i.e., requiring the seat belt when there is nobody in the seat. The question I have is are there two seat sensors? It's odd the seat seat belt sensor is requiring the seat belt, but the passenger air bag sensor has the air bag "off." I thought they would use the same pressure sensor. Thoughts?
Thanks....and Merry Christmas!!!

Just out of curiousity, how does the car tell you that the passenger air bag is "off"? You don't say what MY car you have, but my '03 gives no indication that the passenger air bag is ever "off", so it must be "on" whether or not there is a passenger.

.... so, late-model W211s have an indicator light to tell you, in effect, that you don't have a passenger? Or is there also a switch to turn off the passenger air bag and a light comes on when the switch is off and the sensor detects an adult in the passenger seat?

As noted above, there is an indicator light on my '05. It indicates the air bag is off unless there is an adult in the car (my 8 year old can sit in the seat without activating it, but my 10 year old turns it on...a bit heavier). There is no need to deploy the passenger bag if no passanger bag if nobody is sitting there - cost savings to you . And you don't want it deploying if a young child is sitting there - possible harm/death to the child if deployed. There must be a second weight/pressure sensor in the seat. Not sure why it isn't linked with the seat belt sensor.

Interesting, I was wondering about the same thing. My 05 just started doing this same thing. Airbag sensor works just fine but the seatbelt indicator sometimes stays on when no one is in the seat. When that happens the only way to turn it off is to fasten the belt over an empty seat. Sometimes when a rt seat passenger gets out of the car while its running as I dropped them off, I get a message on my MFD that "the pass airbag is off, see manual". If I turn the car off then restart it dissappears. Interestingly enough I also get that message in my 06 ML500 plus if someone gets in it will come up"pass airbag is activated" This is nuts and I believe a terrible system. ???
