I don't know about the W211's but on my 300E, there is a system to recognize when a lamp is out. In order for it to work correctly, you must use OEM lamps.

Your owner's manual lists the lamps on your car. The license plate lamp is a C5W. The GE type number is 7546.

Part # 6418 (C5W) Sylvania Make sure to get the 5 watt bulb. Most aftermarket bulbs that are hyper white are 10 watts and those will run hotter, which will eventually melt the clear plastic lens.

Thank you
When you unscrew the bulb lenses the bulb will be attached by a couple of plastic clips on the lense. Just replace the bulb and screw the lense back on the car.

LEDs are brighter and typically lower wattage.

I replaced mine with 5w aftermarket bulbs (bright whites)....

I used the following: http://www.bimmian.com/product.htm?v...item=IXB&ref=1

got this tip from my fellow BMW buddies....they look really good at night. and the wattage draw meets OEM requirements....

I'm having a hard time finding this part number on Sylvania's website. Do you have a link where I can purchase it? How would you compare this bulb to the Hoen in regards to color and life expectancy?

Its been awhile since i posted that part # so it might be outdated. I would go with the Hoen C5W (non-LED) bulbs. Bought some Hoen bulbs for my ex about 2 years ago and they're still going strong.

192/194/168 bulbs are wedge bulbs. You'll see them up front as parking/city lights.

you need a festoon bulb for the license plate and most interior bulbs

Thanks. I found the Sylvania's at Kragen. Their just OEM replacements, so I returned em, and bought the Hoen's online.

Aren't the 2007-2008 E350 wedge bulbs? (size 168/192)? I didn't think they were festoon bulbs? If so where to buy good festoon LED lights AND what size??

not so..the Merc license plate lights run on a canbus, needs 5W drain to report no error. LED's are brighter and lower wattage but the canbus LED's have a load resistor to simulate the 5W load. the heat thus still gets generated in the place holder from the heatsink...

Someone should do some experimenting and figure out exactly how much current need to be drawn to keep the car happy.

I think the Benz spec on those lights are 5 to 7 W max (Else they melt the mounting and cover)
Therefore theoretically...
P = I X V
therefore I = P/V
=5W/12V | 7W/12

= 0.42A to 0.6A

??? If the voltage across the lights are higher than 12 (i.e. 13V), the current should be slightly lower. (0,4A to 0,54A)
Someone please check the logic here..just geussing...

or just put in a variable max 10W/30 Ohm load resistor in place of a bulb and adjust until the error message on the dash is gone?

I would guess they put in a bit of margin. Considering how often this issue comes up just a bit surprised no one has done exactly that.

I've noticed the 6418 comes in different lengths. Anyone know exactly how many millimeters our license plate bulbs are exactly?

Are the wagon lights the same as the sedan lights? As far as the module is concerned?

If so and they are the same if it were me, I would get the LED modules. I replaced mine on our sedan and it's awesome.

Let me find the thread somewhere...
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211...te-lights.html

If they are not the same, disregard the above. I will take a picture tonight before work so you can see the led modules. They are pure white light and light up the back very nicely. I posted a picture of it on our CLK when I bought those modules specific to that car but it's pretty much identical in terms of how the rear end looks at night/light projected.
