Is the tail opening too big or small. Too big and you can get cheater rings... (small reducers) Too small and an exhaust shop can expand the ID of the tips. Unfortunately, this will most like crack the chrome... you could just use high temp. clear to stop the cracking from making it's way to the chrome that is seen from the rear....

Out of curiosity, would these decrease the performance of the car since the airflow is doing through an additional bend in the exhaust?

Absolutely minimal since the extra restriction is so far aft.

I agree.. the extra bend is not going to kill hp... good question though.

Diesels don't care about a teensy weensy bend waaaaaaaay back yonder in the nether regions.

Make sure they don't rub on the bumper, as they might melt it or muck up the paint.

I'm not sure how much diesel soot (our truck with it's Cummins is obviously different than the MB engine) will come out the pipe, but it's something to consider.

Send them back for a refund:

Don't let Midas touch your car. Midas gets to work on my 1987 Ford Bronco, not my 2005 Mercedes.

Welding on the exhaust could lead to rust in a few years, warranty will be void and you could be looking at big bucks for a pair of new mufflers, etc.

Also, you probably will get soot on the back of the car. I get a little soot with stock exhaust. As clean as new diesels are, they still pump out a lot of particulate emmissions.

Finally, you will create a crash-point. Eaxmple, you back into a low object like a tall curb or earthen mound. Or you get rear-ended by a low car. The fouling point is your exhaust, and a simple bump becomes a major expense.

"Garbage". I too bought them off Ebay and couldn't get them to fit, even when I got them half on, they looked horrible. They are sitting on my shelf in the garage and due to the fact they are so horrible, I won't even sell them. I ended up purchasing a far better set from formymercedes Quad tips made in germany that do fit the way they should. See my Sig for the brand or go to there web site. Don't waste any more time trying to get them to fit and even if you do get them on a new car like that deserves to maintain its nice **** end.
