Anybody ship wheels/tires?
Have you shipped wheels/tires before? If so, how did you do it? What method did you use... I can't figure if I should box them or just have them wrapped or something...
Any input would be appreciated.

i just cut out cardboard circles and placed them over the rim face, tape it to tire and write "do not throw do not drop" i also left normal PSI (32-35) in tires so they are not flat

I ordered tires from tirerack.com last week and they came just as alboogiee said with cardboard covering the wheels... they used standard packing tape.
Tirerack.com offers UPS and FedEx (i used UPS) so I'm sure you can use them as well.
The UPS guy just rolled the tires into my garage.

i bought my rims from someone from Ohio delivered to me in California. As others have stated, cardboard covered the entire rims both sides (almost to the edge of the tire). Good packing tape was used to hold the cardboard together and bubble wrap to cover the face. Tape was along the entire edges of the cardboard PLUS across the width of the tire spaced evenly. Lugs were placed inside one of the rims (bubble wrapped and taped securely). Rims arrive in perfect condition. Four 18" AMG rims were shipped via Fedex, insured for $3600....total cost was $145.

The wheel(s) I have shipped have always gone in cardboard boxes and from Texas to NY cost $18-19. per box ( 1 wheel per box )
And when I sent wheels , I doubled them up, placed cardboard end caps, then plastic wrapped them ( and shipping store will have the rolls of plastic wrap ) and shipped them UPS $47 per bundle. Texas to Florida.

I've shipped wheels many times. Cover the ends in cardboard as many have indicated. If you want to cover them, wheel and tire shops have large plastic bags for shipping. I have never had a problem getting them if you just ask. You can put them inside, and use shipping tape to secure. I sometimes bundle them together using nylon rope. Shouldn't cost more than $100-$130 using UPS.
