I have not yet replaced brake pads.
Is this something you must do as message suggests, or wait if car drives OK?
How much does dealer charge any ideas?
I am assuming this is not covered in warranty.

I'm also assuming that any car that's at least 3 years old has had the brake fluid changed by a dealer or another outfit equiped to do it.

I had all the required TSB's performed for SBC problems, noisy front brakes and the bad cable routing prior to this message. As part of the previous warranty work, they had changed brake fluid and replaced the front brake pads for free.
Well may i know how to stop the lamp switch???
Can you explein in details ?
Thanks agine....

Does anyone know where the switch is located? They're usually under the dash at the top of the brake pedal on most other cars.

He didn't elaborate, but told me that something needed to be reset after I changed the brake pads and sensors.
(I did my own pads and sensors on all 4 corners in January about 5k miles ago - no problems until this brake message started about 2weeks ago.)
It's been a week since the car is back from the dealer now and no repeat of the brake message - so far. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
BTW, my car has had all the recall work done including the SBC ground.
Anybody have an idea what he might have meant needed to be reset after changing the pads and sensors?

This excerpt is from a WIS procedure I found on another forum for changing
the brake pads (front and/or rear):
"The following steps should be run through
in STAR DIAGNOSIS:
Select the menu item "SBC-Sensotronic
Brake Control"/"Initial startup after
repair"/"Remove/install brake pads".
Then process all the individual steps from top
to bottom."
It is interesting that many people have changed their own pads on this and other MB forums for the W211 and haven't posted anything about having a problem.

The Star Diags is the system that MB dealers use to troubleshoot/fix MB's. None of us own one because of the cost (at least $15K).
I don't understand why DalBenz had the problem after he changed the pads.
