dealer has left over 05 E500 wagon -any opinions?

Greetings, longtime lurker first time poster.

Dealer in my neighborhood has a left over 2005 E500 wagon with a sticker of $64K. (sunroof package, no Nav)

I like the E class wagons but they are a little more than I wanted to spend, I figured the dealer would be strongly motivated to move a left over '05 plus I understand the wagons in general are not big sellers.

they indicated they could do $7k off of sticker, but I thought that there should be a little more room to move, plus the '07s are around the corner and supposed to be an improvement.

Any thoughts of what the target price should be for a '05?

Any guidance would be appreciated.
Rich

I think you would be doing the dealer a HUGE favor if you gave him $57k for a two model year old new car. Plus, if this one has only a sunroof and no other options, it is pretty much a "base" car. It's probably worth about $50k the day you roll it off the lot.

Thanks for the response, I was thinking the same thing since others were reporting 9K off of '06s

A target price in the low 50's would be about right?

Are you sure you wouldn't want more options than this one has?

They SHOULD cut at LEAST 10K off the car as its TWO years old....
I Got 9K off a 2006 E class from a local dealer..and It was a base model
Then added the options..EURO Options
Headlights(XEONS)/LED taillights/comand/TV/heated/dynamic/ventilated seats/folding mirrors/heated steering wheel/UHI bluetooth/trunk closer/Motion sensor/Parktronic/AMG 55 Bumpers/rockers/Exhaust...More soon!

Contact Steve @www.mbenznl.com for goodies after the sale If You get a Base model

rich644 if you really want an E500 wagon, expand your search beyond your local dealer. I'm sure you can locate a 2006 with the options you want at a good price (with the 2007's right around the corner).

Cyclerider, yes I would like Nav and Sirius but I figured it could be retrofited. (any other must haves?)

I'll take your advice and troll around looking for any good deals on '06s

I get the sense that a lot of you are waiting for the '07s come out

On a related matter, when I was in for service a few months ago, I overheard two sales guys complaining about losing some S class sale to Glauser in Colorado, so I may check them out

RE: dealer has left over 05 E500 wagon -any opinions?

I bought my 05 E500 sedan last August as an "end of year left over", and got a bit over $10K off plus the dealer installed NAV in my car which would make it almost $12K off. I would think you should be able to get a similar deal on an 06 now as the 07's are within weeks of arrival. I would shop around and get the color, options, and price you want. I would also question the effects on having a car sit at a dealer that long.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I bought a new 2005 and thought at the time it had all the options that I wanted, but as time passed I thought less of the options that I had and more of the ones that I didn't. That's why the one I have on order has so much stuff on it. Getting the options with the car is so much cheaper than adding them later. Is your heart set on a wagon?

$7000 off MSRP is a joke IMHO. Just ask yourself what is the 2005 E500 wagon worth after you drive off the lot. I am sure its value will lose whole lot more than $7000. And I agree with the previous poster, buy a car with the right options and you will save more money in the future. Mercedes is no econo-box so don't buy a striped down car. Take your time and find the right car. You will be happier in the long run.

You guys do realize that the E500 wagon is being discontinued for 2007.
So get'em while you can because the only wagon available for 2007 will be a E350 4-matic so the dealer can ask whatever they want because someone will eventually buy the remaining E500 wagons.

I think it's not a matter of if the dealer will be able to sell but at what price. People are ALREADY getting 5-10K off of the sticker price for 2006 E500s since the 2007s are coming. If all he's getting off for a 2005 is $7K, he might as well get a 2006 E500 wagon with the options he wants and save an year worth of depreciation that is worth itself about 7K. Yes, the dealer can ask whatever they want but only someone uninformed of current prices will take delivery of a 2 year old vehicle for only 7K off. This is not to mention the fact that you don't know why this car has been sitting around for 2 years.

My advice is get the vehicle if the dealer will sell it to you for $50K. Try to make the Navigation drive installed as a part of the deal if you can. Otherwise pay a bit more and get a 2006 with the options/color you want plus the benefit of an additional year of depreciation. After the 2007s come out, the price of used 2005 E500s are going to go down to the mid to early 40s within about 8 momnths.

Interesting. Yet, I see a lot of 2004 CPO E500 Wagons with asking prices of $50K.

Here's an '05 E500 4matic with 117 miles. Sticker at $65,000 and it isn't even bringing the minimum bid of $46K. Your dealer is way off.

Yes, I see a lot of crazy prices out there. I've seen dealers trying to get 40 something for 2003 E500s. If the asking price for a 2004 E500 is $50K, that means they will probably make a deal for around $45K or even less. As soon as the 2007s start appearing all the previous models will take a hit so prices will come down towards the end of the year.

I still feel the original poster should not pay much more than $50K for that 2005 E500vehicle. Anything more and it's better to buy a new 2006 E500 for around $55K.

If you look on cars.com you can get a good idea about going prices keeping in mind there is probably a little room to negotiate a bit more.
