Harman Kardon 7 option on the E-Class

Has anybody heard this system yet?

Any info on how it sounds?

Is it comparable to the Mark Levinson in the lexus?

ANY info on it would be great.

All I know is it will be 12 speaker, with an amp and a subwoofer.

How much better do u think the system would be than the stock system?

O ordered it on my E500. I think it is a 7 digital surround sound system and I believe it has over 400 watts but not sure.

if you get the e2 package, it comes with the harmon kardon. My salesperson couldn't stop talking about it one day, he said it blew the s-'s bose by a whole mile. So i think this might be better than the ML, because i read this review a couple months ago, "10 best audio systems over 30,000. The ls430 from lex came in first with its ml, and the s came in second....So this might be a ml killer...who knows. And if you dont get a moonroof, or get the pan one, it is a 700 dollar option..which it pretty cheap to me

sorry for so many brochure quotes but...

"harmon/kardon logic 7 surround sound system with 12 speakers (including dual surround speakers and a subwoofer) and an 8 channel amplifier. system features multichannel digital surround-sound technology developed for the professional recording industry, to provide a natural and realistic sound stage. digital dynamic volume control helps preserve the sound balance under all driving conditions."

Yeah, I'm psyched to hear the Harmon/Kardon. I've been really happy with the Bose in my W210, but I do wish it could get a little bit car-hopping louder. I have H/K speakers on my computer, and they blow my Bose Wave system away! Maybe it will be the same effect in the car.

Also, my Rover has H/K in it. Premium sound from 1995 still kicks butt. And, hauling cargo damaged the back speakers, making them reverberate the bass even more.

So, I'm all for the H/K package in the W211.

i doubt it holds a candle to Mark Levinson....those systems are simply top notch stuff.

H/k is only mid-fi quality if you ask me.

I've read that the HK upgraded system is spectacular.

The base system in MBs is not too good. I have the Bose upgrade in my ML and it is OK but not great. To have decent sound I have to set the base way down and the treble way up. The speaker placement, low in all doors isn't really optimal.

Had a Lexus GS with Nakamichi a while back and that was superb. Had separate amps for sub, woofers and tweeters which were well placed.

The new HK system is supposed to be designed to have each seat be in a 'sweet spot', in other words, the passengers in the back seat shouldn't have to go deaf for the front seat occupants to hear things well.

I'll be interested to hear from someone firsthand.

HK Logic 7 system

I had this system for several months on my BMW 745i. The sound was awesome and it did have equalizer capability via the nav screen. I would highly recommend this option. I listened to the Levinson system on three different occasions in a Lexus UL and IMHO it is not as good as the Logic 7 system. Levinson can give you great clarity of sound, but I didn't feel any "depth". In addition there was no equalizer capability.

I won't have the nav system since it was not available until January. Does that mean my HK 7 system will not have equalizer capability?

No, I don't think so. If the system comes with equilizer capability (I'm not sure if it does) you probably access it through the central screen and controls which are used to display nav info. The sound system control should be completely independent of any nav software or upgrade.

I have the Logic 7 system, and previous years the Levinson. My ears are not what they once were, but there is something indescribable about the Logic 7. Sub woofers under the front seats and a control that enhances the effect of the Logic 7.

I myself am certainly no expert audiophile. But I have a great friend who owns recording studios (artistic and commercial). Loaned him my car for a day some weeks ago. Unbeknownst to me he drove a producer and sound engineer in it - They raved about it! Said it beat any automotive system they had ever heard.

Funny thing, I gave no thought to the Logic 7 when he borrowed my car. Their comments were unsolicited and, believe me, they were not being polite.

I can't describe quite what it is. You've got to hear it for yourself. You guys will love it in the E-Class.

Very Poor Sound Quality

The Harmon Karden sound sounds terrible. The equalization is way off and there is no way to correct it. The treble and bass controls help, however, they are limited. A very poor sound system.

Talk about bringing something back from the dead....

chasy, do you realize that most of the people you replied to probably don't even have these cars anymore?

My response applies to current year models with the Harmon Kardon Logic sound sytem. Hoping to help anyone interested in the quality of the Harmon Kardon system that has not heard it in action- after all those years the sound system today is very poor for music.

Well, in 2003 it was pretty bad *** compared to the competitors. When I was young (and dumb), I used to have aftermarket subwoofers in my car. Once I purchased this one, there was simply no need. If you want to bass out like some ghetto piece of trash, then perhaps you should be looking at another car?

I am not talking about extreme bass from large sub woofers. It is the overall equlization of the sound at normal levels. It is very poor for any ear appreciates good quality sound at typical listening levels. The Logic circuit may help if you are watching surround sound movies in your car. A very poor choice for MB. Another quality car manufacturer provides an equalizer to properly adjust the sound to ones preference. You can't do this in the MB.
