Who has replaced their serpentine belt?
My car has 51,000 miles right now and I am thinking of replacing the serpentine belt as a precautionary measure. Has anyone done this yet? How much was it at the dealer or can it be done DIY?

Its a VERY simple job to replace the mono belt about 10min
If You have a Torx socket set and a Ratchet and 10 min it can be done
Just Draw a pic re the belt route and install the same way..
The Dealer will charge you 0.8 of a hour to replace it @$110.00 a Hour

Besides Mark's advice, buy an OEM belt as the ones at places like Autozone are junk. I don't know if Mark changed out the idler pulley -- when I change my serp belt, I'll also change the idler & tensioner pulleys -- for me, this is mental conditioning burned into my memory from when I had to change a couple of timing belts in those Japanese cars. BTW, the idler & tensioner both have plastic pulleys on them.

Frank if you change the belt, it would be nice if you took pics of how you did it and of the tension pulley. Also part numbers would be helpful. This way we can build a data base of parts and photos. Perhaps we could start a "Tech" file on this site and make it for all to access. Thank you. Jim

This site in Russia hosts a copy of the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog) that shows part numbers and subsystem diagrams.

Since this site is built with Microsoft's Active Server Pages, I suggest you use Internet Explorer since other browsers won't work as well or not at all.

correction: looks like it's back up :-) yesterday, it affirmed something like "i've taken the site down..." oh well, nice it's operating.
sorry for the whiplash, paul.

That's exactly what I was thinking, and I'll do the same. At a minimum, the subsystem diagrams are worth having just to see all the parts involved. I'll be "pdfing" like crazy.
BTW, I didn't know that Braingears disappeared -- they had good info on there for the W210 model.

one of the quiet but incredible features of Adobe Acrobat: creating PDF from
URL. you paste the URL into Acrobat and do the PHD method (push here,
dummy) and it spits out a PDF. but wait, there's more. you can also invoke
"save entire site" and go make breakfast. when you come back, it would have
d/loaded all the linked pages and created a huge PDF that you can save to
a CD for off site accessing.
the W210 and w211 are about 1k pgs each. i do this whenever i think there
is a chance that the info is good...and possibility that it'll disappear some day.
i think i went to the AllData repair site and grabbed most of the TSBs that way
as well. (if you want, email me w/year and model. prob about 50mb)
if you dont have Acrobat (no, not Reader) you can also consider picking up
outdated, version 4.0 and that'll work. prob get that off Ebay for about $20
or so...maybe less.

Do a google on "CutePDF" and download the free pdf converter and the other open source software that converts Postscript into PDF. Al the instructions are there on the site.
The converter works as a printer driver, so once you have it installed, you just select it when you are going to print something. It will come back and ask you for a file name to enter and where you want to save the new pdf document.
It's great, and I use it all the time especially for printing web pages with a lot of images on them.
