Has anyone changed their car bumpers, grille into the new 2007?

Just curious has anyone manage to change their grille, lights, front or back bumper into the latest 2007 w211?

I've looked... Are the lights really different? I don't see it. Maybe they're just more or less vertically tilted in the new nose.

I've looked the new lights, they are not really different, they put horizontial bars behind the lights, they are interchangable but those signal bars are really just cosmetic, and they are plastic. but for the swap, it's not really worth the time and cost to do, since you have to change out the bumper, hood to use the new grille. It prolly cost you at least around 10k for it cuz MB body parts are not cheap and not to mention the paint job as well. not sure if you need to change the fender since they don't look different since the headlight assembly is no changed from the pre-facelift. I really like the new "vee" grille but what i really like the most is a welcome change to the mirror assembly that is anchored to the door instead of being flushed to the door pillar. I'm looking at a mod job on that since that's the only thing i like best.

I was talking to my service guy here and he said you do not have to change out the hood. He should know as he has just recieved 3 of these kits, with the following:

RearEnd:
Rear lights assembly
rear tag panel with the longer chrome strip

FrontEnd:
Front Bumper,
Fog Lamps with the chrome strips (he said these are not same quality nor same size as what came in the 06)
Front Headlamps (he as well said these are not same as what came in the 06)
Front Grill

As I already own an 07 it did no good to lie to me about this stuff as I am not a potential customer for this stuff. He said for the upgrade he would do it for about USD 4500 for the front and rear.

The hood has to be changed in order to accomodate for the larger grill. I looked at this issue when I purchased my E63 against my E55.

Like others said, if you want to burn 10 grand, go ahead. You might as well just get a new car.

Sorry to inform the guys but the Stealer that had you buy a new hood when you made this front end conversion from 06 to 07 just stole from you. I talked to the guy that is doing my friends 06 to 07 conversion this morning and he swore up and down that no "you do not have to change the hood" and he has already done this conversion to one car here already and I talked to his right hand man at the shop without the boss around and the right hand guy also swore up and down they did not change the hood on that car with the conversion. All I can say is they do not call them Stealers for nothing. We will see on Friday when I go back with my friend to pickup his 06 E.

Hmm I guess I will have to ask around the dealers. Because from the looks of it, it doesnt seem the hood needs to be changed. The grill is only sharper/lower on the bottom so I think the bumper is the only thing that needs to be changed.

Yeah your are right, no way the hood needs to changed. He said the only thing that was a pain in the *** about the conversion is fitting in the new headlights but it can be done just time consuming and I checked with my friiend that since the guy doing the work is taking his 06 parts as a trade in he is only charging my friend a total price of the equivelent to USD 1600 to do the face lift front and back.

No rear lights are not a must my friend said he was doing it as he wanted his car to look like an 07. Oh and yes the trunk lid did not change at all.

From what I remember my friend told me the rear panel (including painting) and the chrome strip plus the tail lights was going to cost him about USD 275 of course that is taking the old stuff in on trade.

Yes the shop keeps the parts but he is not a body shop he is actually an unauthorised service provider for MBs here any day you go down there he has anywhere from 15 to 20 cars he is working on. My friend and I and many others here buy our MBs from gray market dealers that import the cars on their own. MB Indonesia sucks and hates these guys for doing it but when I bought mine I saved USD 25,000 to 30,000 just because I did not go through the rip off artists at MB Indonesia. The guy running the service part of the shop was once a service manager for the largest MB dealer in Indoneai, he had 3 shops under him and he left and started this place with his freinds. He is the authorized dealer from Brabus and Lorinser here in Jakarta so has great support from Germany via their connections. Everybody that knows him consider him a very knowledgable and trustworthy guy which is hard to find here. I was there at his shop on Monday and he actually had a customer of his who also owns a Continential GT and he had had a fender bender and needed Martin to have his whole Bently painted. Martin told him he did not have a paint shop but the guy insisted as he only trusted Martin to do the work right.

The Deed Is Done

I went with my friend today to pickup his car after changing the following on his 2006 E class

Rear Tail lights
Rear Panel and Chrome Strip
Front Headlights
Front Fog Lights
Front Bumper
Front Grill

Total Cost for him after trading in the 2006 parts was USD 1900 and no they did not have to change his hood at all.

The conversion cost sound reasonable considering the number of parts to change. How about the side mirrors? Can it possibly be change?

Yeah when we were there today to pickup his car the owner took us over to check out the mirrors on an 06 S550 Brabus and he told my friend that they could change out the mirros but we compared the mirrors on his 06 and my 07 and we did not see much difference other than the 07 side mirror turn signal lens is narrower. We did not ask the shop owner but if anyone knows of any other difference I am sure my friend would be interested to know.

I am surprised that you didn't noticed the difference between the 06' and 07' mirrors. Anyway, 06' mirrors are just like the current C and previous S where the mirrors are mounted against the a-pillar like ears while 07' mirrors are like CLS and current S where mirrors break off from the a-pillar. The E55 linked in this thread has the new mirrors so I believe that it is changable. Personal request, could u share some photos of your friends car after the "facelift".

Yeah we noticed the difference you describe above but those side mirrors are not cheap and we did not see a big technical advantage in the change. Will go over and see him this weekend and psot pics

Oh, I see, how much does the shop owner quote you for the 07' side mirrors? I personally feel that without the new mirrors the conversion doesn't feel complete, just my personal opinion. Looking forward to the photo.
