My latest mod (K40 install) -- Somebody please stop me!

So I purchased a windshield mounted radar detector a couple of weeks ago. One day after that a member on here contacted me about a K40 hard wired stealth unit he had for sale. The price was too good to pass up so I pulled the trigger on it. Here's how it turned out.

For those not familiar with the K40 unit, this thing is bad ***. I have a hidden radar reciever behind my front bumper cover as well as the rear bumper cover. I also have a lasar jammer hidden just below my front liscense plate bracket. I have a control unit for City/Highway/On-Off and 2 L.E.D.'s. The left LED is for radar recieved in the front and the right LED is for radar recieved in the rear. I have corrosponding audio on the left side of the car for front and an audio alert on the right side of the car for the rear. The speakers are hidden somewhere in the dash.

If someone is interested in my windshield mounted unit, it's an Escort Passport 8500 X50. I've gotta recover some of this crazy expensive install!

That looks very nice. IF you dont mind me asking, how much did all that cost you? And how does it compare to your passport x50?

Jangy, are you drunk? What the hell are you trying to say here? I don't speak drunk-a-nese.

The E55 WILL be my next ride. I was considering the 55 when I got my 500 but coming from Jag S-Type R, it just didn't seem smart to have all that HP and TQ in the 55 and sit in bumper to bumper traffic every day. So, I decided to save some cash and get the 500.

You get your sprintbooster yet?

THANKS!

Um, well...the unit plus install is normally about 1800.00 bucks. 1100 for the unit plus 700 for the install. A member here sold me the unit for much, MUCH, less than that. I don't wanna say exactly how much in case he's trying to sell more. I had it installed at a certified K40 dealer and talked them down to 500 for the install. I can tell you that the unit+install was less than 1/2 of 1800.00

You can probably do the math.

I had the 8500 connected for the ride home from the install so for a short time I had them both on. Both units are incredible. They both alerted at the roughly the same time for a couple of bogeys on my way home. However, since the K40 has a rear detector as well, obviously it's much better for rear radar detection. I really just wanted the stealth install. You can't go wrong with either.

Not yet. I did get the website so i will.

I get it. i didn't see it was a K40 and not an Escort!!

I'm asking if the model / brand you got is the best out or is a Valentine "better"? I know you got a deal on a used one, but I'll have to get a new one.

Actually it was new, not used but I am the 2nd owner, he never installed it. It's the K40 (K2000 model w/ laser defuser). K40 has one out now called the Calibre and that's the MACK DADDY one. It's the same thing as mine accept that the radar recievers in the front and the back as well as the laser defuser connect to the control module via bluetooth instead of wires. Talk about a super clean install. So instead of having that control module that I have, you have a little wireless remote. Oh, and the Calibre talks to you, mine just beeps.

Depending on who's review you read it's better than the V1. If you read the reviews from the people that don't sell the K40 they say the K40 sucks, go figure. What I can tell you is that the place that I got mine done at sells pretty much every detector you can buy and everyone from the owner down to the grunts that work there all have the K40. Also, the K40 is a dealer installed option on Lambos and Ferrari's if I'm not mistaken.

Suggestion:

Don't assume you're invulnerable just because you have a radar detector. The last speeding ticket I got came when a Countie Mountie crested a hill in front of me and zapped me with instant-on. 70 mph in a 55 mph zone - a $100 mistake! I was running my Val-1 at the time, and it lit off with max signal strength warnings when he zapped me, too late!

IMHO, the Valentine 1 is the world's best detector. But even the best can't protect you 100%!

In a perfect world, cops would pay as much attention to tailgating and distracting behavior (putting on makeup, cell 'phone conversations, etc.) as they now pay to "speeding"! But speeding tickets are a good source of revenue for political jurisdictions. Never mind that the autobahn, with many miles of unrestricted speeds, has a much better safety record than USA Interstate highways.

If lawmakers really were concerned about traffic safety, they'd support better driver education and laws which penalize dangerous behavior. Europe is far ahead of us in this regard!

Regards,

I've got a V1 Radar thingamajig, it connects to the cig lighter for power.
A friend got me it, so i gave it a shot
I used it for about 3 days in my 740iL. I don't speed much, plus i have no clue what the f*ck these things do. all i know is that thing beeped and went crazy all the time, i'd drive by police cars and it wouldn't recognize them...i don't get these things, I hear that sliding doors at supermarkets can set them off...i thought they'd alert me when police cars were nearby, i guess it only detects when they're shooting a laser gun at you? Maybe it'll work better on my E500...I wonder how much i could sell it for...

None of them are "Police Indicator Lights" They sound only when the cops are using radar or other speed trap "beams" in the vicinity of your car' "Radar Detector". Then it identifies the Radar & lets you know its intercepted a Radar Beam.

Just because cops are in the area, doesn't mean they are broadcasting any speed trap signals at your car. You may want to look in the box your "V1 thingamajig" came packed in & RT%M. I'm sure it will give some hints as to how to use it.

60.00!!!

if the k40 is the best - did you go with the front diffuser mounted in the license plate or under the front bumper somewhere?

also what about cameras-what about that photojamer spray paint - i slapped some of that junk on my plates on a few rigs- unsure if it works-

Yes, I did the front laser defuser too. You can use the supplied liscense plate frame or you can remove it from this and mount it where you want. I had it removed and mounted snuggly under my OEM front bracket. It's nestled up there quite good and unless you're looking for it, you'd never see it.

Don't know much about the photo jammer paint. Sounds a bit too gimmicky and I can't imagine that it really works.
