How to install the AUX cable from COMAND to glovebox?

Hi everyone.

Could someone kindly provide me with instructions on how to properly install the AUX cable that connects the COMAND unit with the top of the W211's glove box (where the female plug end is installed)?

I know how to rip the COMAND unit out, but would really appreciate instructions (even better with pix!) of how to remove the glovebox and properly route the wire.

Thanx in advance.

Murman

You didn't mention what year of W211 you have, but you must have an '04 or later if you already have the jack in the (glove) box. If so, you don't need to run a wire from the jack to the audio head unit - it's already there unless somebody took it out, and you should be able to select AUX on the audio display to play a portable audio device through the jack. Or, so I've heard. I wouldn't know.

Hi there. I have a Jan 2004 build W211 (S211, actually) with Audio 50.

I'm looking to replace the 50 with COMAND, and since I'll be installing the COMAND unit, makes sense to add the aux cable at the same time.

Our glove-box has the indent in its "ceiling" to accommodate the in-jack, but there's nothing there right now; I'm assuming the aux cable would have the in-jack attached to it, but perhaps that's a separate part also....

Ah, that's right, you mentioned in a previous post that you had the Audio50, so no AUX input on the display unless you swap it for a newer COMAND. Somebody who actually knows something - unlike me - will have to answer your question.

Thanks for the part number, John. Are you skilled enough to do this "blind", so to speak, or are you also on the hunt for guidance? If I find anything elsewhere, I'll make sure to pass it on here.

About $29 from MB dealer. I got my new COMAND installed, it only took about 45 mins to install. The cable took most of the time. Not difficult, just took time. Works great.

Any tips/hints on the cable installation? Did you have any written guidance to refer to?

No just routing the cable is tricky, as there is not much room behind the comand and the glove box. There is only one path, you will find it. Then just plug the end into the rear of the comand and your set. It took me about 20 mins, but if I had to do it again, it would only take < 5 mins.

Hey John... Did you thread the aux cable through the hole behind the glovebox panel (that holds the aux cable input)?

HELP! I tried everything possible to thread the AUX cable from the glovebox to the COMAND without success.

Can anyone post a WIS that can show me in pictures how to retrofit the AUX cable. I've spent around $50 CDN for this thing...

I tried using a long, thin plastic strip as an initial guide to feed via the hole in the back of the glovebox, but could not seem to find the magic path...

ANY help greatly appreciated.
