$700 bucks to replace front windshield???

I know the car has rain sensors and all but damn I just got quoted 1300 or so from Fletcher Jones, $700 from Beshoft...

Is there a cheaper route? $700 bucks is just simply crazy.

Its too late now, but it is much cheaper to have "Full Glass Coverage" on your insurance policy. Its cheap insurance. On the other hand, check with your agent to see if you do have it and don't know you do.

The windshields are expensive for the reason you mentioned, and also because they are a low volume windshield, (the more they make/sell, the cheaper each one goes for) and MB owners are very nit-picky when they get their cars back, AND because of the "If you can afford a Benz, you can afford the repairs" punishment mentality.

I think you got it really cheap. $700 for a windshield is a bargain! I recently replaced one of my taillamps and it set me back $240, imagine if I had to replace both.

I had to replace my 2005 benz windshield and the cost was 957 dollars. The job was done by Giant Glass in New Hampshire. My home owners policy took care of the bill less 200 dollars deductable. You might check out your policy.

did that drive up your insurance? We had a leak @ our house 10 odd years ago and claimed insurance for it and they denied our insurance a few months after.

A glass claim on your auto policy doesn't affect your premiums at all. Too many glass claims & they'll drop only the full glass coverage for a couple of years. (I had 13 windshield claims on a 93 Astro Van over 5 years. It was a very vertical van windshield...They dropped the full glass claim after claim # 9) I have had full glass coverage again for years, though. It was reinstated about 2 years after they dropped it.

I'm sorry, I said homeowners but that was an error. My insurance company AMICA, handles both the house and auto....it was the auto insurance portion that paid for the windshield replacement. Sorry to mislead you.

Yah I checked on both, Farmers takes care of both home and cars, my deductible is 1k. I've filed a few large claims b4 @ fault so I had to do that to lower my premiums. I'm making an appointment with Beshoff @ the moment, I'll be paying $335 for the windshield @ wholesale and $275 for the labor since I get no love for labor only parts.

FYI

S-B-67.00/20 AUG06 – Damage to laminated glass due to chips or cracks (all models)

NOVUS glass repair is approved by DCAG and recommended by MBUSA for use in repairs. Cracks up to six inches in length that radiate from the impact point are repairable. The impact spot from the initial damage will remain visible after successful repair. However, NOVUS uses a special polish to restore the shine to the repair, thus reducing visibility of the repair.

I would suggest getting a quote from both your dealer and a NOVUS franchise http://novusglass.com or 1-800-776-6887.

Bear in mind that the GLASS portion of your auto policy is a separate part of your coverage and does NOT come under the collision deductable you have whatever amount that may be. It is separate. Call your broker! You might save a few hundred.

I just got my windshield replaced by a third party but I purchased the glass from Beshoff. Total was 435 installed, not that bad.

Had just replaced the windshield on my 04 e320 (before bringing it back at the end of lease), went to a local glass shop in NJ, got an after-market glass - happened to be the same brand as the OEM one. Didn't have the white Mercedes sticker on it, but the guy at the shop took the original off the broken glass and glued it onto the new one. Cost: $295+tax.

I got mine replaced last year by Fletcher Jones. Just had to pay my insurance deductible. I didn't want to risk all the electronics with third party shops. Well guess what, Fletcher Jones had some third party company come onsite to replace them anyway. And at the end screwed up my light/rain sensor anyway. Had to make another trip back and the *******s had the ***** to tell me it's an electrical problem now, and tell me to make an appointment with the service dept downstairs.

I've had enough with Fletcher Jones... If it wasn't its near vincinity to my work, I'd never let them touch my car. That Lexus dealer across the street is looking mighty nice now...

Wow bummer, there isn't any electronics. Don't let anyone tell u that it needs to be resync or any crap like that. The so called rain sensor is nothing but some optical lense/tubes mounted on the winshield. Behind your rearview mirror is where all the electronics get mounted and it's just a simple board with some IR stuff.
