Got My E 550... Here's a Couple of Observations

The new style floor mats DO cover the dead pedal area of the floor board.
And apparently, they have deleted the ability to lock the doors & trunk electrically from a button next to the trunk release above the license plate. (At least I havent found a button yet & now its dark.) No Biggie.

Where's the lock pushbutton located? I havent looked in the manual yet, but the button was a big rectangle on my '04!

Pics after the weekend. The Daughter will be around this weekend with her digital camera. I'm still using a Kodak Instamatic ...LOL

I've had the car 2 hours. Thes is what is immediately noticable...

1. More power assist to the steering as well as tighter geometry. This yields a must "lighter" feel to the steering. Its a real good compromise between the old "thick" steering feel and the overly assisted, much too light American steering feel.
2. Floor Mats now cover the dead pedal area
3. No fan speed indication on heater controls when in Auto, ony when you manually adjust the fan speed.
4. Plastic kick panels & moldings along the door sills.
5. NAV displays a digital clock AND time left to reach destination. (The clock should be visible ALL the time, though no matter what screen is on the COMAND)
6. Smartkey has a tiny loop to hang the key up even when the metal "valet" key is removed. The hole is too small, but next time around, they'll get it right.
7. No electric pushbutton near trunk opening handle by the license plate to lock all the doors and the trunk. Car beeps when locked/unlocked... Nice Touch!
8. No "Remove Key!" beeping. Also, a more politely phrased reminder in the speedo.
9. Can't check oil level in MFD anymore, car has a dipstick. Now I know how much oil there really is in the crankcase... for sure
10. Option to scroll radio by memory presets or next frequency. (What took so Long!)

Have you noticed any other changes?

Do you need keyless go to have the lock button on the trunk or did all previous w211's have it? I have it on my '05, but I thought it was part of my keyless go.

Yeah either must be remote trunk closer or keyless as I have never seen this button on my car.

Has anyone also noticed that the '07 seems to be a fair amount quieter than my '04?

I would put it a bit differently, something like:

"Able to check actual oil level, don't have to rely on MFD any more, car has a dipstick."

Hmm, OK. Seems like you should have the button then. I've got one but I've got keyless and the auto trunk closer (like Konigster's pic). But who knows what's up for '07?

KeylessGo button in the trunk?
Presumably, that would allow you to start the car while loading packages and then get in and drive off?
I don't suppose there's a similar button on the remote for remote start?

The keyless go button inside the trunk is only to lock it I believe. If you have the electronic trunk closer and push button 1 the trunk will close. If you push button 2 the trunk should close and lock the car I think.

No... the button is to lock all the doors and the trunk from the trunk after you unload & before you close the trunk lid. It was on cars with and without the electric trunk closer function.

..and my '07 doesn't have it anywhere in on or near the trunk. Its kind of redundant anyway. I mean I've got the key in my pocket anyway.

Dooes that mean you can scroll through your memory presets using the buttons on the steering wheel?

Another difference is the missing a/c vent on the B-pillars, facing the rear passengers.

At least its not like my Dad's stupid Cadillac. His car has their version of Keyless Go, so you can open and start the car without the key, but it does not allow you to lock the car unless you use the remote. It does have remote start though, which is pretty cool.

Yes. Once you set it up thru the MFD, my radio scrolls with the steering wheel buttons only thru my preset button stations, and NOT to the next receiveable radio station up or down the dial, on AM & FM.

That has to be what he means, since it's always been possible to scroll presets from the head unit.

Say what? The four-zone climate control doesn't have the B-pillar vents any more? I don't see how M-B can call it "four-zone" if the only rear outlets are at the back of the center console; that would be "three-zone" at best.

Oh yeah, Navteq finally corrected the spelling of my Street on this NAV DVD. (Please don't make me open the new cover for the drive & remove it to see which one is in there. I don't want to open/adjust/touch anything.) It was always listed correctly on the list of street names when you were entering the address, but on the MFD it always displayed a misspelled version of the street name. 3 years ago I sent them an e-mail telling them this & they responded that the street name had 2 correct spellings. I sent them pictures of the 3 different street sign intersections that the street has, showing only 1 correct spelling. I guess they agreed I knew where I lived.
