what do you think bout 275/35/19 for the rear?

As the title states, has anyone tried this for the rear. I have my E500 lowered via links which I can adjust. I can fit about 3 fingers b/w the stock wheel and qtr panel right now.
Do you think running 35 series instead of 30 series in the rear will make a big difference ?
Any help will be appreciated.....

You should be ok in the rear, but if you run a 40 series in the front instead of the 35 you will rub the inner fender liner when turning sharply and if your car is lowered significantly you may pull a fender. I have enough problems as is with a 35 series in the front..

Why not run the correct sizes?

Keep in mind that if you change the rolling diameter from stock, you're speedo will be off. The correct tire size for the rear, if using a 19" rim is 275/30/19

i didnt think about the speedo issue, maybe i'll stick with the 30 series. i saw a 30 series tire and thought it was ridiculously thin.
Cole, can u elaborate on ur problems with the 35 series tires in the front ? maybe a decription of ur car and the problems u are having, cos' alot of people run the 35 series in the front with 19" wheels and havent had any problems, even after lowering it significantly.

I run 245/35/19 in front, 275/30/19 in the rear. My car is lowered on all 4 corners with an additional drop in the front to give the car a bit of a rake. I drive it hard(ish) and have never had any problems relating to the size of my wheel and tire setup.

The ride will firm up a bit when you go to the 19's. Not too bad, but a bit firmer.

Now relating to the speedo issue, why would running 35 series tires in the rear make a difference, afterall the fronts are 35 series too ?

It's not a front to back relationship you have to worry about. It's a stock diameter to new diameter relationship you have to worry about. Did you click on that link in my first post?

See if this helps:

Notice with the 35 series tire, you're rolling diameter has changed significantly but with the 30 series tire it changed negligibly .

Hope this helps.

I see it now, I guess whats confusing me is that the stock tires are 245/45/17 all the way around, so why is there a difference in height when switching to 19s in the front and rear?
Anyways, thats for the help, I am ordering my tires today !

Since we're on the topic, I ordered 20x8.5 fronts and 20x10.5 rears. Can somebody tell me what tire size I should run, if I had a significant drop, in order to achieve the best best clearance possible?

If you`ll awoid rubbing in rear, you should have 285/25-20. In front it`s ok with 245/35-20.
I got the same size as you, only 9.5-20 in front.
Sending you a picture of it.

Besides the diameter throwing off the speedo, you may also have issues with the DSP. On my 04 350Z, I changed the rear tires to a lower profile and did not follow the exact diameter path, and whenever the car went over the line bumps on the freeway, I would loose acceleration and the traction control light would go off. I found that the system measures the front and rear speeds according to the diameters to figure if there was tire slip and then would cut off the throttle. After going back to the right size, the problem went away. It may not happen on the Merc, but that experience taught me not to mess with that again.

Cheers

Edward
