Leasing - Where Else Other Than Mercedes Benz?

Since I “would” be signing a lease this week, I was wondering who
else offers a good deal in leasing. (But, maybe no one else can offer
as good of lease deal on a MB as MB.)

The new MB lease program - which was posted just this morning -
reflects outrageous rates for the 08s compared to 07s just last week.

Like they’ve lost their mind when you calculate the payments! I won’t
pay the rate they’re offering today! If they don’t drastically roll it back,
I’ll just pay for the car and forget it. But so many of you have suggested
that leasing is the way to go when you trade often.

Since my 08 should be ready this week, and goto said his dealer said
that the MB will be “revising” their lease on July 15 (Sun) it’s made
me wonder if I should be checking with some other leasing companies.

But, I don’t know who that would be. Any experience or suggestions?

I haven't seen any ouside company be more competitive than a manufacturer when it comes to lease rates. A manufacturer knows they have profit built into the sale of the vehicle, they can afford to be more generous on the residuals and rates. A third party has to be profitable on the lease and residual since they did not make anything on the original sale.

If you are pricing it through the web site you are fishing without bait. manufacturer websites are wildely off when it comes to real world pricing. I saved over $250 a month by talking to my dealer as opposed to what MB's site said I should expect. A great example is the lease term. I was looking at 36 month rates, I did not know at the time residuals were significantly better on a 33 month term.

As far as leasing vs buying, I have always felt it is better to borrow a depreciating asset and own appreciating ones. The only time this does not apply is for those who keep a vehicle for an eternity (6+ years) or put on significant mileage...

Um, Why not just pick up (& lease) your new car next week when MB lowers its rates?

Jimm,

A few posts back I remember you saying that you'd like to have your desert first. This coupled by your eagerness to get into the car and all the anticipation, I understand why you're willing to pay more for the car.

When you say "I’ll just pay for it and forget it" worries me because if enough buyers such as yourself cave in, it justifies Merc's decision to be so outrageous.

On the other hand, I would also hate for your ordered car to be snatched up by some uninformed walk-in customer. Try going to your dealer and see if they are willing to work something out.

Tell them you have been informed rates are going to change early next week and don't foresee your self paying $150-$250 more than what you would have paid had your car gotten here a week earlier.

Jimm, this leads me to my next point. When you ordered your car, I assume you put a deposit down, correct? And if so, did the dealer not lock in the rates they had quoted you?

I've never leased a car before, but, my next car besides my daily ride, would be leased. The reason is simple. The trade-in value compared to the residual value of a lease is much less. You can say, well, sell it privately. Most buyers of used MB tend to buy from the dealers. I just don't have time for tire kickers! Unless you drive a lot, you will come out ahead if you don't plan to keep the car long. My 0.02

No dealer is going to sell his car out from under him if he is "unable" to pick it up this week. My dealer had to wait 10 days 'till I came back from Florida & arrange insurance to pick up my car.

Jim, pick it up after they adjust the rates. You can go to the dealership & look at it every day if you need to. The difference in the rates is better spent on Gas! Its only a couple of days! How can you let yourself become the little crying kid at the checkout of a Supermarket crying "I want candy!" to his Mom?

That’s insulting.

The salesman just called and told me it’s in. I’m meeting with him shortly
to discuss it.

OF COURSE I would wait a few more days if that will mean a lower rate.

Barry I must have given you the idea that I'm a fool.

Congratulations Jimm, I think your car even beat Derek's, I'm sure things will work out for you. Ordering cars is more stressful than I anticipated. A Euro Delivery would just about do me in.

Nah.. I just thought that you were gonna pick it up just because it was in when you said you would pay it. Now that the car is in, the cooler you are the better. They're not used to people being able to contain themselves once a car arrives on the lot. Be sure to get a good price on your wood wheel! Then enjoy!
