ESP Went Out On My 08
3900 miles on the 08 I got on July 12 and the ESP has gone out.
Dealer is ordering a part to be replaced next week.
Factory alignment was off when it arrived. It had to be realigned.
Love the car but have my fingers crossed regarding its reliability.

With the ESP having "gone out" does that mean the car now performs as if ESP could be turned completely off?

My ESP went out while sitting in the dealers shop while I was on vacation. Less than 1000 miles. I'm not sure whether it had anything to do with a steering wheel change or not but the indicated cause was a steering sensor. It took a day or two to get the part and now all is well. The car was driveable but a message (ESP inoperative) appeared on the MFD and the triangular ESP warning light remained on. I assume the ESP was simply not available. Moreover, your cruise (speedtronic) won't work and it will throw another error message if you attempt to use cruise that clears once you shut the car off.

I had that message two days ago, but since it has been fine. Yesterday I could not get the nav system to work on the way home, it said the system was unavailable. This mornng it was fine. This car sure has some funny electrical gremlins...

wouldnt work with the EPS out. Didnt try that.
For what its worth, the warning light would come on and stay on until
shut down. Then, probably the next time I started up - it would be off.
Then after I drove a while it would come on again, etc, etc.
Funny, the service man insisted that I didnt know how to push the EPS
switch to turn it on and off. (Really compicated.) So, he demonstrated.
Over and over. Like I had feathers in my hair. I thanked him and as I
moved 10 feet to leave, it came on again! I yelled at him and this time
no argument!

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be a bad steering sensor. It was replaced a day later and the car has been fine ever since.
