this chart, it seems to say otherwise, ie a dealer part. wow...what
could have been a few dollars at the auto parts store has become
something $xxx more ?! is this really the case?

yes, that's what I suspected as all of the autoparts stores instructed me to visit the dealership....I don't understand why the entire assembly would need to be replaced...according to a diagram I found on the internet http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...=1&catalogid=2
It looks like it's just a bulb based on the diagram. A dealership visit for a bulb?!?!
base retrofit to a removeable bulb. that pisses me off so bad to see something
like this. it doesn't even appear to be LED based array...which (grudgingly)
might help me understand the basis for this design, ie...it lasts longer. but if
indeed, this is an incandescent bulb hardwired to a circuit board that would
really chaff my panties.
You can purchase it at MB dealer. There is a facelift version that fits straight on the older model. It's 140 Euro in EU.
Easy to replace by yourself, just remove the liner in the trunk.

I've checked a few places online and noone seems to carry it? Is it only at the dealer?
(I replaced them w/ LED's).
Let me know if you are interested (PM me for details)
So, where did you find $40??? Just wondering...I'm at oempartsdirect.com.
After the shop installed new parts both lights were found to be inop. The body shop swore they could change the bulbs in a few minutes
. Not a chance. Once they opened it up they found a LED circuit board and associated parts. It was a dealer only item and delayed delivery of the car for two weeks. So,, it is not a bulb. but an LED as others suggest. However if it is intermittant, I would check for lose connections or broken solder joint before buying a new one. Jim
