4matic = rules !!!
The 4MATIC maintains the high level of driving quality that is typical to Mercedes-Benz. It also boosts traction plus with the interaction of the ESP® helps motorist to overcome all types of weather conditions. The compact and lightweight construction, the 4MATIC offers various advantages in terms of weight, comfort, consumption, and safety.

The 4-Matic could even be faster because of the better grip at start, but according to the Euro figurer, the S350 is faster at 0-100 km/h 6.9s versus 7.1s for the 4-Matic. Both are limited to 250 km/h top speed.

From the manual you can see that with standard suspension on both, the 4-Matic would sit 15 mm higher than the RWD model.

Performance

Go to this website:

http://www.mercedes-benz.de/content/...0001.0002.html

Go to performance figures and it will show the difference between all the models and transmissions. Looks like .2 slower for 4-matic in 0-100 KPH.

I believe the question has already been answered. The 4MATIC is 15mm higher than the RWD.

Performance and height are a very little different. However its not even noticable and as far as performance is concerned you can't tell the differnce with very sophisticated measuring equipment.

4-matic performance

I think this speaks well of the 4-matic engineering that we cannot distinguish much difference in performance. It does add a little weight so I would think there is a small premium to pay. I do know in my 01 E-430 the 4-matic seemed totally seamless and I assume it will be the same for my pending 08.

I did read where the S-Class had an even newer generation of the 4-matic than the E-Class. That seems a little disappointing for E-class owners that you can't get the latest advancements in a $65K car. Can anyone describe if and what those difference are?

fuel mileage

According to my website listed on post #6, there is about a 7% increase in overall fuel mileage for the E-500 for the 4-Matic. It is 12.3 L /100Km vs. 11.5 L per 100Km.

Depends on the road conditions.. If its raining/snowing/wet/low traction road then the 4matic will be faster..

Ride height

According to their data the 500 has ride height of 1465 and 500 4-matic has ride height of 1475 - 10mm difference.

Do not believe so. I get 26.5 on the road and about 21 around town with my 05 E320 4M. There again may be an insignificant difference but its certainly not a factor at all when you take all the advantages of the 4M into consideration.

You mean 15 mm is not noticeable? Why does MB put incorrect figures to their technical data?

This is not comparing apples to apples. The original question was about standard E350 versus standard E350 4-Matic. E500 is equipped with Airmatic and sits lower that E350 (unless E350 was equipped with Airmatic, which is available in Europe).

All these different figures have been posted earlier.
