California BlueTec debut
LOS ANGELES - October 16, 2007: Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) unveiled a version of its E320 BLUETEC, a diesel sedan that will immediately be available in limited numbers to California customers through a special two- year/24,000-mile lease.

Interesting, but they do not mention the differences on this car compared to the current (should I say previous) E320 Bluetec. Would this be the same as the E300 Bluetec for Europe?
And why is the AdBlue model needed during 2008, are the US emission regulations changed by then from that of California today?
And why is the AdBlue model needed during 2008, are the US emission regulations changed by then from that of California today?

So the new US diesel is more like the current European E320 CDI, 224 PS and 540 Nm. Diesel consumption 6.7 l/100 km versus the Euro E300 Bluetec that only gives 7.3 l/100 km even if the US model rear differential is shorter.
Clearly not exactly the same cars.

As far as I remember all 2008 diesels have to have Ad Blue in California.
When I was in England recently I noticed some buses or commercial vehicles with the Ad Blue fill hole. They are already in operation in Europe though I think it is a great waste of time and money. Reason: the European diesels emit less CO but more NXO but are not allowed to sell in the USA.
It is all industrial lobbying.

Good spot, www.mercedes-benz.de reports 1:2,47 for both Euro versions (E320 CDI and E300 Bluetec).

Is it? The E300 Bluetec figures are 155 kW and 540 Nm while the jesmb figure for the US Bluetec was lower (526 Nm). I did not check from MB USA, is it another mistake in the MB press release that jesmb is referring?

On a recent trip through the mountains, from Kamloops to Vancouver, my Bluetec's fuel consumption was 6.8 L/100 or 41.5 mpg imperial, traveling @ 100 - 130 kph. On a more level Interstate highway, I would expect even better fuel consumption for my Bluetec.
It's an amazing machine, with so much torque !

The 1hp difference and 1.7 lb-ft is probably due to the slightly different standards for calculating power in the US, also differences in fuel...

Come on I am pretty critical of the the us and especially our drivers but we are not that bad.
Just our of curiosity what is the difference in gearing for the EU and the US spec machines.

I cannot believe you can defend LA drivers, I go to school there, and incompitent would be too much of a compliment for the way most people drive. Then again, compared to Stuttgart, most drivers seem...gestört.
