'03 E500 sport

whinning/rubbing noise @ start

I have 2003 E500. Last week my car started making a NASTY whinning/rubbing noise when i start up the car and worsens when I turn the wheel. It goes away in 10 minutes. I showed it to my local shop and he told me its the belt and dampner.....
I tired to see if there are service campaign but there are none. Any suggestions?

Check your power steering fluid. Its got a really small tank... unless what you are describing is a belt squeal.

Had that and it was the PS fluid. Threw some in,and no more whining,now if there was only such a solid solution for my wife....

if its not the power steering fluid, try the idler pulley and the ac compressor pulley. there should be a DTB that addresses these.

There are no service campaigns or recalls that I know of on this however, if it turns out not to be low power steering fluid and if covered by initial factory warranty or extended warranty you can mention DTB P-B-13.22/01 it may be a faulty upper idler pulley that needs replacing.
