Wood Trim
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use to clean the wood trim?
On my other vehicles I've always used car polish, but they have very light wood trim. On the new E I have the sport package with the charcoal wood, so I'm afraid that if any minor scratches occur it would show up much more. I love the look of fingerprint free glossy trim. Thanks

yea im pretty sure water will do because none of the wood is exposed, or is it? i think there is something over the wood to make it shine, and that will protect it

Wood veneer is a thin slice of real wood laminated on a substrate which is usually some composite that is resistant to warping. The advantages: cost; resistance to warping; ability to use more exotic woods that otherwise would not be available in sufficient quantities to be used in mass production; malleability for curves, etc. Other manufacturers may use "imitation" wood made of plastic or even a vinyl covering over a substrate that is made to look like wood. I think that is what the post meant as "fake wood". You can tell the difference when you are as close as when sitting in your car.

wood
I believe the MB wood is laminated to an aluminum foil type backing which will deform in the event of a crash while still holding the pieces together and preventing splintering. It's been that way for a long time, as I first read about it on my '83.

I've been using Zymol detail wax on my BMW and Benz wood trim for the last 3 years..remove prints etc..makes it shine like nothing else...cost $15 for a tiny jar..you put in on with your fingers and buff it out right away.

Mike_Fern: This is a duplicate of my post on the thread you have on the subject. It also applies to any needs on wood trim:
Mike, MadManAboutTown is absolutely right. There are wood technicians that are truly artists. We have had many nicks and scratches in wood furniture repaired by such folks and been unable to find the mark afterward. I am sure a quality dealer knows them in your area because they use them on reconditioning used cars before sale. You would be amazed at what they can do. Don't despair.
Now, as to the cause. I suspect one of two causes. The most likely is the dragging of your keys against the wheel after taking them out of the ignition and while exitting the car. That makes a case for keyless go, doesn't it? Second, a ring on your finger or a watch or bracelet on your wrist brushing against the wheel. My wedding band sometimes knocks against my wood wheel but does not have a sharp edge to cause a scratch-maybe a dent.
After you spend $50-100 getting this fixed, be careful, but enjoy the car and wheel.
