Help!!!! brake problem

After reading several posts on here about changing my brakes I decided to go ahead and give them a try. I have changed brakes on other cars before with no problems. I visited a few web sites and ordered new rotors and pads. Once i recived the parts i knew the fun was about to began... I removed the first front rotor installed the new then compressed the caliper I went to put the pads on and realized that the pads that I had received were wrong ( close to the same but different tabs on the sides ). so I decided that I would put the old rotor and pads back on and drive down and get the right pads from the dealer. Once everything was put back tougher I started the car and received the RED ESP warning light. I have tried turning the car on and off several times and pumping the brakes etc but still the light remains..... any one have any ideas on what I can try to hopefully get the car working again?

Was this a car with SBC brakes? You don't mention disabling it.

Did you have battery disconnected at some point?

In any case, try turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock a few times steadily.

I think your pads are still compressed.

Turn the key on,, apply pedal pressure hold for 20 seconds. This allows time for the pads to move out to the rotors. Release brake, turn key off and then turn key on. If you still have the brake warning,, repeat. You might have to do this 3 times until the pads fully seat. It takes more cycles than with new pads because you fully compressed the pistons into the calipers and the pads are worn. Best of luck.. vettdvr
