Mp3 cd....re-visited

There have been a few success stories with some guys being able to play mp3 dvds in the head unit. For example

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...&highlight=mp3

Now my question has nothing to do with the ability to play it but rather with how to create the dvd. I am curious by what everyone means when they say, burn a dvd with mp3's on it. You are not simply burning a cd liek you would through itunes for example? What programs do you use? Are you just inserting the dvd in the computer and copying and pasting the mp3 files onto the dvd?

I know its a question that doesn;t really have much to do with the car itself but I just cant figure it out. My computer will not let me just copy and paste the damn mp3 files.

If someone could help me id appreciate it.

Thanks

what are you trying to accomplish? i know that when i play an mp3 cd in my COMAND it pulls up 99 songs and title and singer pull up on the screen too. i use Nero 7 by the way and they have a dvd mp3 you can create on it as well but im still wondering what you're trying to do.

I'm still using Nero 6 and the newer versions of Nero can't be that different.Open
Nero Burning Rom,and choose DVD-ROM from the left hand list, and it will open a Windows Explorer type of interface where you can drag and drop files from the right side(your library) to the left side (your playlist). When you have completed this process and you have all the songs you need from your library ,you can then choose an icon that resembles fire or a lighted match and it will burn the songs to an inserted DVD blank. It's just that simple.

I've been wondering the same thing as DPR333 as I await my wife's E350 wagon to be built. If you've used Nero to burn MP3 songs onto a DVD, can you see the actual song and artist names on the Command screen? Last weekend, I did a test burn of a CD onto an DVD (using some other software), then put it in a portable DVD player that plays MP3s (since I don't have the actual car to test it in). The DVD screen just showed the numbers of the tracks, not names.

Quick question. How do you pause or stop mp3 music once it starts playing?

To the OP: you mention "DVD". You do know that it has to be a "CD", if a U.S. Command ?

"Mute" will do it.

Huh? Others have been saying that the 6-CD changer will play MP3 format music that's been recorded on a DVD disc. You're saying this isn't so? Even on a 2007 or later vehicle?

Hmmm. Take a look at the thread below from a few weeks ago. Specifically, bltserv's post, where he said he can play well over 100 MP3's burned onto a DVD.

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...891&highlight=

Could it be that US Command cannot play DVD movies, but they can play MP3 music burned onto DVDs?

I think my best bet is going to be to record a couple of CDs in MP3 format onto a CD and also onto a DVD and take it to the dealer to try out on a 2008 E class and see if both play (since my wife's E350 is on order, I can't just go into my garage and try it out).

Oggie, I think bitserv mis spoke because I can fit over 100 mp3's on a CD, which is 700mb.
Theoretically then a DVD, @ 4.7gb , should hold almost 500 !
I think that it's a matter of the U.S. players not being able to recognize a DVD, music or video.

While you're correct about a DVD fitting almost 500 MP3s on a DVD, I don't think bltserv misspoke. He was specifically replying to a post in the same thread that stated that the CD changer would "only play the first 99 songs per disc in mp3 format." His point was that if you put in a DVD with more than 99 MP3 on it, the Command would play more than 99. In another thread, someone had mentioned that Command was limited to 99 MP3 "folders" on a CD, and 999 folders on a DVD.

Of course, bltserv has a 2005, and I went back and read the thread that was posted as a link by dpr333, who started this thread, and noticed that no one with a US 2007+ car was able to play DVDs. Only 2004 and 2005 E-class owners could play music DVDs.

I'm definitely going to get to the bottom of this by burning a test DVD and CD with MP3 music and taking it to the dealer before I spend a lot of time burning MP3s.

I'll let you know what happens.

I burned a test DVD with mp3 files, my player (2004 E500) would not read it. Haven't tried mp3 files burned onto a CD yet.

Some can play mp3-filled DVDs, some can't. Mine does.

And to interject you can get around 800 files on a DVD blank depending on their
relative size. I guess getting them all to play is the real issue...

I guess additionally a comparision of the head unit model number (in the back of the unit) of all who can play them should narrow things down considerably. Then we can create a sticky with that model number(s) for all who come here wondering what unit plays what....

Others have been saying that the 6-CD changer will play MP3 format music that's been recorded on a DVD disc. You're saying this isn't so? Even on a 2007 or later vehicle?
I happen to have the 6-disc changer that plays MP3 on CD,and I can tell you mine DOES NOT. MP3 playing ability is limited to CDs for that unit ,but with this issue being so fickle , I tried it anyway ,just to see,and I was SOL....But this doesn't mean a later unit won't, just mine, seen here:

Just burned my first DVD of tracks. Roughly 50+ albums, can't recall the file count. So far, so good. Loads up just hunky-dory and plays no problem. Didn't even fill the DVD to its max capacity. I just wanted to see if the puppy would work.

The COMAND manual does indicate: "A CD may have a max of 255 folders, and a max of 255 files in each folder." Does say CD though...

That's great, buddy,I'm glad it's working for you. I just can't understand why this remains such a mystery especially amongst the dealerships. From all I've read here ,and at other sites ,they always seem to be clueless when it comes to this issue, and the only remedy seems to be trial and error from us.

This is quite the mystery. From what others have posted, I have not seen anyone with a US-version 2005+ vehicle say that their Command can play MP3s burned onto DVD discs. The only US-version cars that seem to play are 2003-2004s, and not even all of those.

In any event, even with MP3s on CD, that still gives you around 6-7 albums (on the highest quality setting) per CD, which is quite a bit better than just 6 regular CDs.

Hell yeah, but having 100 files times six of different genres is not a bad thing ,either....

To further complicate matters: does the DVD play in the single unit, or changer, or both?

What type of DVD disc did you burn on: DVD -R, DVD -RW, DVD +R, or DVD +RW?
