E550, AMG mufflers, resonators delete, x pipe.
ok, stock E550 exhaust was just way too quiet for me.
replaced the stock mufflers with AMG 55 mufflers and removed the resonators(replaced them with X-pipe)
finally got the sound i was looking for. just loud enough for me!
would like to get some opinions.
i am not sure if it is louder than E55 or E63 stock exhaust sound, but i wasnt looking to make it louder than those cars.

Wait a second, you said you put E55 mufflers on your car? I only see one tip per side. It appears you have the AMG sport package mufflers.
Regardless, it sounds great!
You only took out the resonator and replaced it with an X-pipe? You didn't remove the secondary Cats did you?
What about interior drone?

and, yeah just res deleted and replaced them with x-pipe.
cats? i really dont wanna mess with those.
drone? well i am very sensitive to interior drone. this one i can take though.
that is why i did not want it to be louder than e55 stock exhaust.

Yours sounds very similar to my E55 after I removed the resonator and secondary cats and put in an x-pipe. It is definitely louder than a stock 55.
Mine seems to get louder after the car warms up. The only droning that I've had was on a 3-4 hour road trip with sustained speeds of 120-155 for extended periods. The noise became somewhat unbearable at anything over 95 about 2 hours into the trip. It's never been that loud since.
I also felt that I lost just a little bottom end grunt.

Great sound. from where did you get the X-pipe? I'm searching for one for my CLS500 because I just bought AMG mufflers

This was mentioned on another thread about the x-pipe. Although it works well on the W210 because there is no cross-over, don't the stock dual pipes cross over already and installing an x-pipe would not gain anything??? Please elaborate because I thought of the x-pipe on the E500 and was told that the pipes already cross over. The recommendations were to just remove the resonators and run straight pipes...

well, the stock resonator do look somewhat like x pipe design.
but with new x-pipe, (with the diameter being slightly larger) the exhaust tone changed dramatically, thats for sure.
now, did i gain any power? i cant really tell the difference.
however, i have changed my resonator for an H pipe before (without touching the cats), and i have lost a lot of power down low. so i put stock res back the same day. i imagine the straight pipes would be even worse due to loosing a lot of back pressure.
correct me if i am wrong.
mainly i was looking for the right exhaust tone, didnt care much for the gains. (as long as i didnt loose any power)

I wonder if anyone has installed a Sprint Booster on these E500's, but I guess that's a topic for another thread or I'll do a search as see what I come up with.
Thanks for the info...

Did or do you have the 321 AMG Sports Package on your E550?
Just curious because I do, and I'm fairly satisfied with the exhaust tone of the car.

thanks...
600 for the AMG mufflers with installation.
500 for the x pipe and res removal.
i did not do it in one day. thats why i had to pay for labor twise. otherwise, it would have cost me under 1k.
i bought my car. i honestly do not know about anything about lease return. never leased a car.

You will have to return your leased car in the original condition you received it.

What if you had just changed to AMG muffers and not done the x pipe and res removal. Would that give just a slightly better sound that stock?
If you're ever in OC, I'd love to hear your car in person
