Blown Center Speaker
Does anyone have any thoughts for replacing the center speaker in the front dash. Mine got blown somehow and I need to replace it. I can't figure out how it could blow especially since the entire system has a limiter on it. Really sounds like crap in there, especially on moderate vocals and while using the phone via bluetooth puck through the system. Thoughts?

The dealer will be the only one that can get you the speaker and you might as well have them replace it. They may even do it under warranty, if you have any miles/years left on it.

Thanks. No warranty left, but I will look into it with the dealer. I'm afraid they are going to tell me $2k to replace it. Any ideas on the cost?

Unfortunately, DTBs are not honored out of warranty unless an argument can be made that the part in question was modified for the reason of complaint. Nonetheless, request a discount for the repair since it is a known problem. As a matter of reference, the original speaker part #A2118203602 is replaced by A1698201802.

I had this happen and the dealer replaced it under warranty. Before I took it to the dealer I took the plastic grill apart and looked at the speaker. It looked like a regular speaker. About half of the fabric was torn.
If I were you I would try taking it apart, buying the speaker at the dealer and replacing it yourself (if you are mechanically inclined). Otherwise you'll get raped at the dealer.

im going to be doing a write up on how to fix this. as for the speaker its just a crappy 3 1/2 and the dealer wants 130 which is way to high for a speaker that seems about the same quality as a radioshack speaker. as for the grill it comes off easy just get a long thin flatheat screwdriver and a flash light and look right above the climate controls and there are 2 tabs that hold the grill on. now i can remember if you have to push up or down and i will show pics in the write up and the grill just pops up and toward you if you in the drivers seat.ill have the write up today or tomorrow. as for the speaker im going to look around for a aftermarket one that will fit.

Did you find a replacement? Mine is blown too. I looked around a few stereo shops but the speakers they sold had big magnets that would not fit. I guess I need a lower end speaker.

I understand that the dealer is the only provider to get a replacement that fits. There also is a bulletin out that when the center speaker seems blown, it may also be the cover rattling and some foam solution can be installed to quiet the rattle. In my case, the speaker is actually blown and the rattle is there too.

Sorry to dig up an old thread. but it's better than starting a new one right?
My 2007 W211 also has this issue, whenever a loud navigation voice or a high pitch song plays that speaker or grill sounded so awful. I was going to bring it in before the warranty is up, but I totally forgot about that issue now I have to pay them to get it fixed. so is my speaker blown or the DTB issue that konigstiger mentioned? Can the DTB be fixed yourself if the speaker is not blown? Also anyone has any pictures on how to remove the metal mesh that covers the speaker?

I had the Same issue top and gave Rhode crocks the Print-out from konigstiger. They ignored it and replaced a perfectly fine speaker. I had to take it all the way up to get my money back back then. Try it and if they don't wanna do it then do it yourself. It's easy to open up the grill cover, undo 2 torx screws and put a piece of felt between the metal speaker rim and the dash holding the speaker.
