? About Wiper Arm "Recall"

Does anyone have a pic of exactly what is done to the wiper arm if the car came with an exposed nut fastening the arm to the car. What does it look like after? ...and is this exposed nut the silver nut that holds the arm to the threaded shaft?

When I mentioned this to my service advisor, he had not heard of it. Do we really need this done?

RE: Wiper Arm Nuts

My wiper arm nuts are exposed, one can only see them when the hood is open though. My 05 E500 was the same way.

Is there a problem I am not aware of that needs attention? Everything is working fine wiper wise other than we need more rain here in North Carolina.

Wiper arm hex nuts

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Per Konigstiger : FYI if your windshield wiper arms have an exposed hex nut your dealer should install covers to each nut at no cost (safety concern), MBUSA part #A0009983521 – 211 & 219 all MYs.

Not aware of a recall or service campaign however, those in the know are entitled under warranty to install if lacking. Part #A0009983521 (see #45 in EPC illustration) https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/210813-wiper-arm-hex-nuts.html

Interesting. The comment I got was non-comittal with a promise to verify on Monday - possible customer charge and no warranty since several 07s and 08s in their present possession did not have those. Plus it appears that those are considered treated nuts. Lets wait and see.

Just buy them for $2 each.

I'd save up my dealer goodwill for something a little more significant and I think anyone would look a bit foolish arguing over $6 in parts that are completely inconsequential save for asthetics.

I took delivery of the 06 CLS with covers in place. If any given dealer refuses to install, request they run your VIN in EPC and pull up the before posted diagram simple as that. The covers are not optional as their purpose is two fold; safety as not to leave the nut exposed causing possible abrasion, and to protect the nut from exposure to the elements.

BTW, submitted an inquiry on your behalf for your other matter.

Its not that the dealer is refusing - yet. But in today's business climate as well as JDP surveys and economy I can see the dealer wanting to cover their rear.

And to lkchris

Sometimes one uncovers things while being serviced on other issues. Therefore tacking on an oversight is not considered being financially irresponsible.

Having these NUT covers put on today along w/SBC hose upgrade and new power steering pump (which I didn't know I needed-thought that whining noise was normal)
