After 8 days (and counting) my car is still on the truck from the port to dealer
Last Monday, my salesman told me my car was on the truck, having arrived at the port the Friday before. Since the port is in Baltimore, just 200 miles away, he said the car would be at his dealership the next day. Well, each day, he thinks the car will be in the next day, but we're still waiting. Now it's been 8 full days, and still no car.
Has anyone had this happen to them? I've heard of cars sitting at the port for weeks before they're loaded on the truck, but mine was supposedly already on the truck, so why the delay?

Your salesperson left out an important entity in the process, the VPC (Vehicle Preparation Center). Vehicle delivers at port, is transported to the VPC for MBUSA preparation then transports to the dealership. Check your PM.

Another thing - when the car arrives at the port, it's released back to the factory. Then, the factory releases it for shipment to the dealer. When it's released for shipment to the dealer your sales person may have thought this meant "it's on the truck and on the way". It actually then waits for the particular assigned truck to be completely filled and only then will the truck depart. That could take days.
BTW, mine did not go to the "vpc" - it went directly from the port to the dealer.
Just went through this with my W211 a few weeks ago.

wmhjr is 100% correct in his statement. I went through the same thing when my car finally hit the ground...was sitting on the truck for 5 days before it finally came my way...hang in there, she's right around the corner!!

Yes thats Interesting as ALL MBs Even the SLRs are sent from the factory to the US Ports WITH a VPC then sent to the dealer..even Euro delivery cars are processed the same..
only way around that would be to fly the car over via freight then drive it home from the airport..but that First Class Ticket is VERY VERY expensive

Mine was built in Feb 08 and delivered to the port. If the "VPC" is at the port itself perhaps it did got through it. Bottom line for me is that the car arrived at the port. 2 days later it was released from the factory. 2 days later it shipped via truck and was delivered that same day in NJ. BTW- these are "business days" and not "calendar days". There was a weekend in between.

Made some inquiries - they moved most of the operation down from Belcamp, when they changed port locations in Baltimore. Most vehicles now process beside the ship when it unloads, then the transport trucks take them to the dealer.
