357 - Should I buy this Comand?
A buddy of mine is selling the comand from his 07 w211.
If I buy this will the 357 trick work on it so I can play dvd?
And how do I do it?

Look through previous posts about Euro Comand units vs. US ones. Briefly, no US Comand unit has the capacity to play DVD videos, no matter what you do. The '357' trick is to get into the engineering menu and try to adjust some small features about the radio, such as video in motion (watch DVD when the car is moving) in the Euro version. Some have reported that on newer units, dealers will give you trouble if the Comand is stuck in the engineering mode.

Actually depends on the year, 03 i know works for sure because I did it but u cant play while driving. 05-08 have DVD players built in but u canNOT play DVDs on it unless you get it Flashed. theres a guy named MBDoctor that has the ability to do that only with the Newer comands. I have a Comand out of an 06 e55 and it will play a DVD with sound but no picture but it reads MP3s and shows titles to everything no biggie but u can easily find a Euro comand for apx 500-700 then buying an 05+ comand for 250-400..

I have an 06 Euro Command but it's region code is 2 so I can't play all DVD's. Also, I don't have Video In Motion and the dealer says they'll do it for me unless you guys can explain how to do this "357" trick, pleeeeaaase!

Thanks for all the replies guys but I'm more confused now than when I started.
1. Do all 07 comands play dvd or just some? Is there a way to tell?
2. If I get MBDoctor to flash the 07 comand will it play dvd on the go? And is this something that can be done remotely/with a disc?

every one should just try for them selves and see and not litsen to second hand info go in your cars turn them on hit the audio button press and hold 357 at the same time and a menu should come up in my car its immidiate in my bros car i had to keep doing it and hold it for about 30 to 45 seconds for the menu to come up after this menu to comes up you will see a list 211usa 210 usa etc your car should be on 211 usa you will be looking for 211 ece if you do not have this menu then you will not be able to play dvds unless thers is another way that i do not know about with the arrow keys select 211 ece hit ok then manually with out touching any other buttons on your radio turn it off by hitting the power button then turn off your car idk how much time is nesscesary but some ppl say 5 min other say 30 i gave mine an hour i turned off my car got out closed it and came back in an hour and viola i was watching live free die hard in my 04 e class 320

mine would say disc error when i inserted a dvd before the conversion

I was always under the impression that the only US COMANDs that could play DVD movies were the 2003 replacement cars. Those cars came with US COMANDs that had Euro internals to them. It's true the 2004's have DVD drives in them but they lack the video processor needed to render dvd video. My 2004 has a US COMAND with a dvd drive. I am able to play dvd mp3 discs but I am unable to play DVD movies. Just for kicks, I tried the 5-3-7 trick tonight and of course it didn't work. The only thing you can really do in there is change the startup splash screen from the MB logo to the AMG logo.
Now, it's possible that somehow your car has one of those US COMANDs with Euro internals but leading people to believe that they'll be able to play dvd's on US COMANDs is incorrect.
Did you buy this car new or used? Did you add the COMAND or did it come with it?
Take a picture, please.
BTW, it's 5-3-7. You need to hold the 5 down first, then add the 3 and 7. Hold for approx 10 seconds and you'll be in.
