How much air pressure are you running?

Ever since I had the car aligned by the dealer I am having problems with my front tire wearing out on the inner side, I had the car aligned again by an indepedent shop and hopefully this will take care of inner wear issue. But as the tires wear down I am noticing another problem which is the center is wearing out a lot faster than the outer edge on the rear tire. I suppose it's better than having an uneven wear on the outside edge of tire...

I know center wear is caused by too high of psi but going by manufacture recommanded 32 psi seems a bit low and the tires look flat like that. I also don't want to risk benting my rims with that low of psi especially on California roads. Anyone having the same problem as me?

I am running Goodyear F1 GS-D3 245/45/17 Front and 275/40/17 Rear with 40 psi all around.

I've seen both on a W211, wear at the centre of the tyre as well as the inside, the outside sometimes too. Has been more of a problem with wider tyres (don't use anything extreme, more like the small ones that aren't even available in the US and sometimes a bit larger ones).

I have not been reading the wheels and tyres section, they would probably have good info but all tyre dealers today claim that the old school rule of centre tyre wear does not work any more with modern tyres. Centre wear could well be caused by too low tyre pressure. I've used pretty much the tyre pressure as advised by the user guide.

Hopefully a tyre expert visits here and gives guidance for both of us.

I would run 36 set with cold tires. MB usually states that you can add 4 psi all around for high speed driving.

I found that 32 in all 4 was the best on our E500. I also found after 4 sets of tires and 3 alignments that Michelin gave the best even wear.

I find this interesting there is that much difference. Are the tires the same size. 245x45x17?

Wink re>>>>>>>>

here is a pic of what it says for my car.
the rear psi seem ok but the front psi just seems dangerous 26 is way to low for me. when i had my 17's i had kumho asx tires in 245/45/17 and i was runing 35psi all around and it seemed fine. in my stagered 19's that are on the car now i run 33 front and 25 rear. and that seems good. im leaveing for orlando from ne alabama and its my first trip in this car so ill see how it does. i might up the ps1 all around a few psi.

40psi is over inflation. I'd run in the 34-36 range cold. The Goodyear F1 has a fairly stiff sidewall so you don't need to tank up the tire in order to get it to keep from tucking under.

The wear on the inner part of a tire, i thought, was due to the natural centripetual motion of the drive tire(s). If you burn out/peel out/whatever, you will always see that the inner pat of the tire is worn (and in contrast, have normal wear on the outer parts).

Why 35 front and 25 rear, that seems backwards. I always run the reccomended pressure for "over 100MPH".

Welcome to Orlando when you get here. Are you coming for business or vacation?

Why not try running it at the pressures stated for over 100 mph? Just a thought.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Thanks, 36 psi seems like an ok pressure it didn't look under inflated when I tried it out. What do you think about the inner wear on the front tires, any recommandations on what I should tell my tire guy to do during an alignment?

That recommanded tire pressure sticker almost seems like an oversight at MB when they start using 17" and 18" wheels as standard wheels and forgot to update that sticker, 26 psi maybe ok for 16" tires but for 17s it doesn't feel or look right.

26 psi is a bit too low when I try it out the sidewall is almost touching the ground sitting still I would think when driving at freeway speeds it would rub and cause a possible blowout if struck a pot hole. It also makes spotting a flat real hard without checking the tire pressure since it looks kind of flat.
